New Fiat Punto to come back with the Peugeot 208 platform

Fiat Punto could be the first model as a result of the merger between the PSA and FCA groups.

While under the management of Sergio Marchionne Argo replaced the Punto, other markets have axed the Fiat Punto.

Quote:
And Manley has already said on other occasions that Fiat was considering returning to the compact hatchback segment and the name Punto was not entirely buried - just kept in the refrigerator.

Mike Manley had also said that the return of a compact model would take the focus off the subcompact brand in Europe. With that, in addition to taking the Panda out of the picture, he is eyeing something more profitable. In Europe, the Punto has been replaced by cheaper versions of the Tipo, a medium hatch, but the brand seeks to return to the local "B" segment, guided by the success of the Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208, in addition to Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta.
Quote:
Fiat has a long history of superminis, going back to the original Punto and the Uno, and a new one would be an obvious project after the proposed PSA merger, given the possibilities offered by the CMP platform that supports the Peugeot 208 and Vauxhall Corsa.

Re: New Fiat Punto to come back with the Peugeot 208 platform

This can only be a good thing for Fiat. Current generation Peugeot's are leaps ahead of Fiat when it comes to build quality. Being the 208 also gives FCA access to an award winning platform from Peugeot. There are competent motors in the lineup too versus the really old 1.4l motor still in use by FCA. Hopefully; they stick to Peugeot transmissions as well and not a useless AMT.

Re: New Fiat Punto to come back with the Peugeot 208 platform

The expected merger between the PSA and FCA groups could soon revive the Fiat Punto. Arriving in late 2022.

this new Fiat Punto would be based on the CMP underbody , currently used by the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa . This would make the Italian eligible for a 100% electric motor . This future e-Punto would probably take over the 100kW block from its cousins, and offer an autonomy located around 330 km.
