Third generation BMW X1 is already on its way.

The German brand's compact SUV shows in the first spy photos of its development, which has just begun.

Fully camouflaged, it will re-use the UKL platform, being offered in 2022 with combustion engines, hybrid and electric under the iX1.

The new model, which is expected to reach customers during the first half of 2022, is seen with the entire body completely camouflaged, and without exposing any details.

Spy photos show that BMW will not significantly change the shape of the silhouette while on the back.

The German manufacturer will once again make use of the UKL front-wheel drive platform, albeit a modified architecture that allows the development of combustion and sustainable mobility models. Again, we'll see a range of in-line three- and four-cylinder engines, all with 8-speed automatic gearing and all-wheel drive on the most powerful ones, a plug-in hybrid and the iX1, an electric also in portfolio

Spy images of what appears to be a heavily camouflaged BMW X1 have surfaced online.

The images reveal a smaller kidney grille (compared to other BMW models), wraparound twin-pod headlights and a creaseless bonnet. At the back, there is a roof spoiler with a 3rd brake light, a small rear window and a cut below the tail lights. The exhaust pipe is hidden and not visible from the back. The SUV has dual-tone alloy wheels with Y-shaped spokes.

While the engine and transmission details are not yet know, it is expected to be powered by the German carmakers entry level powertrain options. It is also expected to get hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. A fully electric version, dubbed as the iX1, could also be on the cards.

White car looks good, but we can make out the cutout of the bonnet for the grille is as seen in the blue car - and it is quite massive!

oh god Please noo. I am so inclined towards the X1 for next year, not only for the complete package, but i find the car handsome too, which is a rare thing for me. Just yesterday i saw a new 7 series with that huge grill and was wondering what BMW was thinking. It was down right ugly.

Next-generation X1 to gain electric versions.

Munich sets out bold emissions-reducing strategy, including EV versions of popular saloon and SUV by 2023.


The next-generation BMW 5 Series and BMW X1 will be available with petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains as part of BMW's ambition to introduce 25 electrified models by 2023.

The German manufacturer has detailed a plan to reduce CO2 emissions per vehicle by at least one third by 2030, claiming to have made “sustainability and resource efficiency central to the company’s strategic direction”.

The 5 Series and X1 will join the next-generation 7 Series flagship saloon in receiving full electric versions. By the time they arrive, BMW will also have launched the iNext electric SUV, smaller iX3 electric SUV and i4 electric saloon. A recently spotted prototype suggests that an electric 3 Series saloon is
on the cards, too.

No further details of the electric 5 Series and X1 have been given, but both can be expected to use a variant of the single-motor powertrain featured in the newly revealed iX3, which sends 282bhp to the rear wheels and offers a WLTP range of 285 miles

2022 BMW X1 shows its its camouflaged interior.

Unfortunately, the interior of the new BMW X1 was just as camouflaged as the exterior , as found black canvases on absolutely all surfaces and elements of the dashboard.
Even the new digital dashboard and door panels had tarps designed to hide their shapes, so we can only see the new steering wheel clearly.

BMW announces the Next-Gen BMW X1 for 2022 Launch.

No specific debut date is provided but BMW says it will be available “both with a combustion engine and a fully-electric drivetrain.

Plant Regensburg will also start manufacturing the new BMW X1 in 2022, which will be available both with an combustion engine and a fully-electric drive train.

For the X1, the plans include a few choices in the EV department, with power outputs varying from 180 HP to 250 HP.
