To top it, looks like this one was designed internally by Fiat Centro Stile, unlike other models like Grande Punto, Palio, Sedici (aka SX4 ). Thats a good sign.

Sometimes you get bad apples too. Give me one more example of an Italian-designed car that doesnt look good.

Sweet, cute, little beauty. Absolutely great interiors. Would be nice if it makes to India. The engine options are great too with 1.3 multijet turbodiesel and two petrol versions.

I can give you more examples (like the Lancia Y10 and the Fiat Bravo Brava with the disproportionate snout and headlights), but then you are right about them being the bad apples bit. Current Multipla does not look bad.

However during the late 80's and the 90's there were a lot of bad apples where the designers had gotten dry, say the Ragata, Tempra, there was the Lancia Thema, Lancia Dedra. offcourse the Duna (Booted Uno) (Well I am not saying Uno itself was bad, cos Uno was actually made early 80's and was showing a design direction). But that time there was a general slow down. But thanfully, dont find many ugly ducklings these days.

I wish they launch the old version too. Like say 500 units that look like this and are tuned by Abarth!

Now that part of your dream is soon to be realised by Fiat

This very special Fiat 500 might only be small, but it has the heart of a

F e r r a r i

Powered by an engine des*igned by Paulo Martinelli, who previously built V10 units for the Prancing Horse’s F1 team, it’s set to offer up to 200bhp and a top speed of nearly 150mph.

The car will help to relaunch the Abarth brand when it’s revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. With unique scorpion-style badging and special alloys, it’s being designed to evoke memories of the famous rac*ing Abarth 500s of the Sixties.

And we can reveal that the newcomer, spied testing at the Nürburg*ring in Germany, will be powered by a highly tuned turbo engine. Three versions are being developed: a 135bhp variant for the 500 Abarth, a 150bhp unit for a 500 S Abarth and a storming 2 0 0 bhp powerplant for the performance flagship, to be badged 595SS. Each motor is loosely based on the normally aspirated 100bhp 1.4 from the standard car, on sale in January.

However, Fiat promises the spectacular engines will be only one part of the package offered by the exciting newcomers. To match its capable pow*erplant, each car will feature a sports chassis, plus wider wheels and track.

Designed to make the most of their Fiat Panda underpinnings, the driver-oriented machines should be incredibly involving on the road – if our experience of the new 500 is anything to go by (see Page 34). Prices have still to be confirmed, but with mid-spec versions of the 500 expected to cost around £12,500, it’s likely the Abarth range will start from £15,000.

That’s set to make the racy new Fiats direct rivals for larger and more practical hot hatches such as the Vauxhall Corsa VXR and even the MINI Cooper S.

The back of the car is almost an exact copy of the older Ford Ka. Not surprising considering this is a joint product with Ford who will market a cosmetically different version as the new Ka.

Cute bundle - I can see it replacing the Beetle as the new chick car.

The Fiat 500 Launch Stops Italy.

Scoop: The Fiat 500 Launch Stops Italy

"When the original car was launched, a cavalcade of 150 cars paraded through Fiat's home town of Turin. For the new Fiat 500, not only will there be a massive event in Turin, but another 30 cities across Italy will close their city centres and historic squares to every car - except for Fiat 500s, old and new."

Logged onto the Fiat India website to take contact numbers of their service centers to book a service appointment and found the Fiat 500 launch stops Italy link on their home page. Hmmmm, thats weird

Can't they have a link to the India bound GP and Linea instead? Maybe just a page on these cars with a gallery instead of talking about a car that will never come to India.
