Suzuki Swace could be a wagon based on the Corolla Estate

After the launch of the RAV4 based SUV Across, Suzuki is planning the next car for Europe, for launch in 2020.

Suzuki Swace is the name of a family van based on the Toyota Corolla TS, that is, it will use the NCGA GA-C platform.

The Corolla-based vehicle will be built at Toyota's Burnaston plant in Derbyshire alongside the new Corolla, with production starting in late 2020.
The hybrid powertrains will be made at the firm's Deeside engine plant. The addition of the new model is not expected to add to the 3200 people employed across the two sites.

Despite some slight changes to differentiate both models, the lines should be similar.

Regarding the engine, the first data show that it will use the hybrid system of the fourth generation with the 1.8-liter 122 horsepower engine.
This will be complete with a sophisticated interior with a primary focus on technology. From the head-up display, the latest generation infotainment system, among other arguments. This is an important step for Suzuki's future.

A single powertrain has been confirmed: the 1.8-litre hybrid one also found in the Corolla, which combines a 97bhp four-cylinder petrol engine with a 71bhp electric motor via a CVT automatic transmission.

Power output is unconfirmed (it's 120bhp in the Corolla), although performance is quoted at 11.1sec for the 0-62mph sprint and top speed is 111mph.

Like the Corolla, the Swace features a dedicated EV mode for emissions-free driving, with the hybrid engine producing 99-155g/km of CO2 on the WLTP cycle. It's understood the Swace won't recieve the Corolla's more powerful 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain.

Re: Suzuki Swace could be a wagon based on the Corolla Estate

The new Corolla hatch and stationwagon looks so stylish and complete, unlike the sedan version which looks less finished and looks exactly what it is. A compact economy sedan.

Pity Suzuki Europe seems to be getting Corollas and Rav4's, while Toyota India is getting Balenos and Brezzas.

Surprising to see how Toyota is letting the brand dilution of its best nameplate by Suzuki

The sedan market hardly matters anymore. Read recently that Corolla sales are down by 28% in the critical US market where RAV4 now outsells both the Corolla and Camry by a huge margin.

Corolla nameplate under the slow transition into a crossover brand. Suzuki may slowly get upperhand over the sedan based on the platform, whereas next generation of Corolla could primarily be the 'Cross'.

I think even station wagons are a dying breed. People these days prefer SUVs and Crossovers.

Balenos and Brezzas are saving the Toyota brand! Over 48% of Toyota’s sales came from rebadged models last month, which means Toyota is getting their bacon and that’s the only thing it wants.

Re: Suzuki Swace could be a wagon based on the Corolla Estate

2023 Suzuki Swace gains power and tech upgrades mirroring its Toyota Corolla twin.

The wagon benefits from a more powerful hybrid powertrain, new LEDs, and more tech inside the cabin.

Starting with the most important change, the self-charging 1.8-liter hybrid system now produces 138 hp (104 kW / 140 PS), representing an increase of 18 hp (13 kW / 18 PS) compared to its predecessor which was introduced in 2020. Power is transmitted to the front axle through an eCVT gearbox. Thanks to the power boost, the model can now accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 9.4 seconds, while the top speed remains at 180 km/h (112 mph).

Moving inside, the Swace gets a new digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch screen and cleaner graphics, plus an updated 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment. The latter loses the physical buttons with the shortcuts on the sides but retains the volume knob. Notably, the Suzuki is not available with the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.5-inch infotainment found in the high-spec Toyota Corolla trims. However, most buyers will be more interested in the 596 liters (21 cubic feet) of cargo space, which can expand to 1,606 liters (56.7 cubic feet) with the rear seats folded.
