Ford EcoSport Active with a rugged bodykit revealed

Ford has revealed the EcoSport Active for the European market. The crossover gets a rugged bodykit and raised suspension.

The EcoSport Active features black plastic cladding around the wheel arches and along the door sills. It gets black inserts on the front fascia, black ORVMs and roof rails as well as a black rear bumper to add to that rugged look. Unlike the EcoSport sold in India, this car doesn't get a tailgate mounted spare wheel. Apart from the cosmetic changes, the suspension has been raised slightly.

The EcoSport Active gets black interiors with leather upholstery. Just like the regular version, it has a floating touchscreen infotainment head-unit.

In Europe, the EcoSport Active is offered with 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Similar rugged version of the EcoSport is also available in the South American market, where it is called the EcoSport Storm. It is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine that can also run on ethanol. More importantly, the EcoSport Storm gets all-wheel drive.

I hope they bring the 6-speed in the diesel soon here in India as well, i checked the UK website and it really is the 1.5 L TDCI motor with the 5-speed. While the 5 speed is adequate and is fairly long, a 6th gear is sorely missed and i find myself looking for one on long highway drives.

On another note, this active package just looks like it has the signature edition wheels and body moulding and a different interior and nothing else.

Body cladding, raised suspension, Active suffix to name and then low profile tires & big rims combination, such a mismatch. 16 inch rims with higher profile tires would have looked and worked so much better on this.

The rear tailgate mounted spare tire does make a difference in the whole stance of the Ecosport ! Sadly the European version doesn't get it. Although It has been 7 years since it hit our shores, the vehicle is still a beauty to look at.
