Re: USA: Nissan is so confident of the Rogue they'll let you drive a Toyota RAV4 at the dealership

This is indeed interesting. Though the idea is brave and brilliant, it has few execution challenges - say dealership alignment and training, variant made available etc. If this is not executed in spirit, this will back fire at the sales counter.
Confidence of the sales executive is more important than the team that conceived this idea

Such experiments would definitely bring lots of notice value to a challenger brand like Nissan Rogue. But hardly we have witnessed such tactics changing the game in long run.

In Indian context, we have seen few such brands comparing with its segment leaders - but they don't swing the market preference. Print ads & leaflets listing the features and mentioning the price as an attempt to establish better value.

May be it will only strengthen the decision of those who are
ALREADY looking at the brand.

Also, during the period of pandemic and economic slowdown, customers stick to the most trusted brands than experimenting with new ones. Long term + strong brands tend to gain in the adverse conditions.

Still I will follow this story to see whether there is something new happening. This can be a completely different thing in the US market

Re: USA: Nissan is so confident of the Rogue they'll let you drive a Toyota RAV4 at the dealership

I reckon, Nissan is on a hyperdrive to get its footing back, at any cost. Right from Carlos days, Nissan is on a slow yet steady downward spiral, it's a shame a brand that gave us the Patrol, Skyline, Godzillas and the likes take to such a "Rogue" decision, especially with a global brand like Toyota. I am hoping this doesn't backfire on Nissan, bearing in mind that the RAV4 is still the leader, per the sales charts. If it can win hearts for so long, it can and will. even more when both are placed side by side.

With the Magnite launch here in India and the efficiencies behind it yet to be scaled up, Nissan cannot make a dim move so that, it as a brand, doesn't have a global repercussion.

Good luck to Nissan.

Just don't quit.

Cheers!
