The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mod Note: Our Mercedes C-Class Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The first images of the 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class have leaked online.

The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class-mercercedescclassleak.jpg

The design of the new C-Class is heavily inspired by the W223 S-Class. The car gets a completely redesigned front fascia featuring re-profiled headlamps. It has a new grille with a mesh made up of chrome three pointed stars.

The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class-mercercedescclassleak_1.jpg

The rear looks reminiscent of the S-Class as well, especially the sleek wraparound tail lamps. It's the same story on the interior. The car gets a vertically oriented touchscreen infotainment in the centre and a floating digital instrument cluster.

The car is expected to be offered with new 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel and petrol engines equipped with mild-hybrid technology.

With all the design updates, the new C-Class certainly looks more premium than the outgoing version. It could arrive at our shores sometime in 2022.

(Slightly OT, mods please delete if this violates the rules)

That iPad on the center console should have an under display 'Palm ID' which triggers the 'Face ID' infrared sensors on the speedo-tab to turn-on the car ignition. 2 factor authentication right there baby!

Few years down the line, the much vaunted sunroofs and windows too will be replaced by large touchscreens with under display airbags and what nots. I am going to miss the well laid out and tactile button driven UX.

Woah, looks absolutely smashing! I am sure that when it hits the market, it will become the benchmark in this segment in terms of premium feel and design. I especially LOVE the new steering wheel. The new Mercedes Key-Fob also manages to look really classy.

But what makes me sad is the fact that this makes my W204 C-Class 2 generations old.
Just like how the W205 was much more expensive than the W204, I expect the W206 to be even pricier. If and when it comes to India, I would expect the top of the line model to hit 60 lakhs on-road. That would be nearly twice of what I paid for my W204 in 2014. IMHO this segment is not worth that much money. One would be better off spending a few lakhs more and getting into the BMW 5/ Merc E segment, or even better - get a nearly new 5/E for the same or a little less money.

Looks good – with almost all of the Mercedes range were renewed (including the E), the current C looked pretty ancient, especially with the interiors. Not sure if it’s a good thing, but their user interfaces are fast evolving and I feel each generation/face-lift will see some new implementations coming though.

I agree with you on that one. But on the flipside, as the sticker price has been going up, so have been the discounts.

As a result, the customer ends up paying only a marginally higher cost for the newer generation. But of course, the customer has to be well aware, a good negotiator and has to time the purchase wisely.

Coming back to the car, I'm not surprised to be honest. This car will probably be the best selling car in segment when launched. Well done Mercedes Benz.

Now, THIS IS HOW YOU TRICKLE DOWN FEATURES to lower segments [looks are also features, btw], it looks like a million bucks, like a shrunken S Class. Though I will never agree with the asking price, as I know very well that, in 2022, this segment will top 60 lacs for sure. Just viewing pleasure. Final words from me - suuuper classy.

Minute detail, but

when I see this :

The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class-old-merc-hl.jpg

Change into this :

The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class-new-merc-hl.jpg

It reminds me of this :

The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class-bmw-hl.jpg

To put it in words, the way the fender side of headlights are shaped, looked to me like a BMW.

The C class has come a long way. From being a replacement to the W201, each gen keeps getting exciting with the only fly in the ointment being it's price.

Although it is a beauty, we know how the new C has come about

Man, this next-gen car is stunning! Love the face. Not so sure about the rear styling, but will reserve judgement until I see it in person.

You know space is at a premium when they brag about a mere 2 cm increase . This is definitely NOT the car to be chauffeur-driven in. For that, the 3-Series LWB is just perfect.

So true. Rear seat space aside, the C-Class is now a true luxury car. And perhaps the most fun-to-drive Mercedes as all the others have extended wheelbases (E & S Class).

Really? I thought it's aged quite well. Old though - the car has been around for 7 years now.

I would have mentioned it more clearly
My comparison was with the other models in the Mercedes line up. With the new MBUX, the interiors of the newer Mercedes models (even the facelifted E) looks like a generation newer. From the outside the C still looks very elegant.

I hope they don’t do a LWB C-Class for India and skip the regular version.

re: The 5th-gen 2021 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Love it! I’ve seen this car being tested multiple times (with a black cover offcourse) around the Karama area in Dubai. For those who don’t know, Mercedes frequently does the hot weather testing for their upcoming vehicles in Karama. It was hard to figure out the proportions of the car given but it seemed quite similar to the current gen model!

Overall, absolutely love the interior especially the screen which I believe is class-leading and on par with the model 3 (probably better since the driver gets his own screen). Even the exterior looks gorgeous especially in the blue AMG-line spec.

The current gen has aged beautifully as well and I’m actually looking for a used car bargain here in Dubai. With the expats fleeing the country, even relatively new luxury cars can be had for really low prices.
