Tata Motors' global head of design - Pratap Bose - gets nominated for World Car Awards!

Quote:
India’s and Tata Motors’ Pratap Bose is among the top five finalists for the 2021 World Car Person of the Year award. The five names were announced today when 93 World Car Awards (WCA) jurors from 28 countries collectively voted for the finalists by secret ballot. KMPG tabulated the vote results.
Pratap Bose is Tata Motors' Vice-President, Global Design. In that role, the Royal College of Art graduate brings an international perspective to India's leading automotive conglomerate as he now leads three design centres around the world: in India, Italy, and the UK. His multinational experience and truly global perspective are raising Tata's design presence, both within and beyond India, and gaining recognition for its daring, forward-looking design strategy.
The other finalists are Luc Donckerwolke (Hyundai Motor Group) , Euisin Chung (Hyundai Motor Group) , Tomiko Takeuchi (Mazda Motor Corporation) and Akio Toyoda (Toyota Motor Corporation).

Very well deserved I'd say.

It's not just about playing an instrumental role in the turn around of a company, when you do it to a company, you indirectly make a huge contribution to the entire community of yours. From chic looking Tiago to sophisticated looking Safari just see how balanced and pleasing the Tata designs have got.

Today, design is probably the biggest reason behind the sales of Tata cars, each of them look either the best in class, or are up to the best.

It's not just exterior, interior too, they are no more ergonomic disasters, and feel like a good place to be in. This man has indeed done a decent contribution to the entire Indian auto industry, and I am sure that every competitor too would want him to head their design teams too.

Really very pleased for Pratap! There's no denying that he's injected a lot of stylistic chops to the Tata range and no one can argue that their design, inside and out is nothing but contemporary. Gone are the days of the Indica template repeated ad infinitum. Plus, I dunno if it's just me but I'm glad India can have a reputable design name out there in Pratap than the garbage Dilip Chhabria burdened us with (on an unmerited reputation to boot imo).

Anyway, was fortunate to be able to briefly speak to Mr Bose recently as he happened to become acquainted with dad (dad had no idea till I incredibly excited about finding out who he happened to meet at work), and Pratap comes across as a lovely man.

All the best to him in the voting! That being said, he's up against some sterling competition. Hyundai globally are a big fish now, turning heads in showrooms and also gaining motorsport gongs too. Mazda's been a firm favourite of mine ever since they introduced their Kodo design language and they continue to make some really great little cars. And finally Akio, one of the few remaining great personalities as an auto CEO (I'm talking in the sense their reputation precedes them, much in the way you knew say a pre-scandal Carlos Ghosn, let alone post scandal..). Akio's not only managed to finally inject some fun into the historically stoic Toyota range (see their latest Yaris GR for proof), he's kept them top of the pile during a particularly choppy decade for the industry as a whole. So yeah, some big names Pratap is up against but just goes to show how far he's come if he's up there against big name designers and auto industry scions.

I must say what he has done with the GR Yaris is truly commendable, the praises the little car is garnering across the world is immense. Nobody knew a Yaris could be made so FTD with a 1.6L turbo + manual + AWD! He totally deserves it.
