Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the production version of the EQS electric sedan. The car is based on the EQS Vision concept showcased by the brand back in 2019.



The Mercedes-Benz EQS is the first model to be underpinned by the brand’s latest EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform. It will be manufactured at Sindelfingen, Germany, alongside the conventional S-Class sedan.

The new EQS electric sedan measures 5,216 mm in length, 1,926 mm in width and 1,512 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,210 mm and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.20.



The Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with a gloss black panel with a three-dimensional star pattern in place of the conventional radiator grille. The front also comes with full-LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, connected together by an LED strip. The EQS is offered with a choice of alloy wheels ranging between 19 to 22 inches. The rear features LED taillights, again connected by an LED strip.



On the inside, the Mercedes-Benz EQS comes with the brand’s latest Hyperscreen, making up the entire dashboard with three digital displays. These include the instrument cluster, the touchscreen infotainment unit and a third display for the front passenger. The car comes with a host of other features and equipment as well.



The Mercedes-Benz EQS will be available in two variants – EQS 450+ and EQS 580 4MATIC. Both models are powered by a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Mercedes-Benz claims that the EQS electric sedan will offer a maximum range of 770 km (WLTP Cycle) on a single charge and a top speed limited to 210km/h.

The EQS 450+ comes with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 334 BHP / 458 Nm. The EQS 580 features dual electric motors (one at each axle) and churns out 523 BHP / 856 Nm.

The hyperscreen looks mighty impressive! Looking forward to seeing its capabilities. In EV, these screens can provide a ton of interesting information!

The side profile pic really shows the length of the vehicle! Its really long.

It is interesting to see Merc innovate a lot with the new technology - like Connected tech, integration with Alexa, etc in most of their new launches in India. BMW & others seem to have gone slow on this. While it might be a little too early for the tech to become more mainstream, I believe similar to all successful software, iterating & learning is the key and an early start helps in the long run!

Love everything about this (on paper at least) apart from the rear design which looks too plain and the way how the boot area ends abruptly when looked from the side. They should have made it more smooth and flowing like the new S-Class but it might have been done to achieve the tag of world's most aerodynamic production car.

Is it just me or do these two look similar from the side? The roofline. The front and rear quarter panels.





But the interior screens sure are quite futuristic looking ones.

The EQS looks impressive in terms of range and charging speeds. It is claimed that the EQS can sustain the 200kW charging speed for a long period (almost up to 80% SOC). The long range plus the claimed charging speed would make it quite equal to any ICE car in terms of time taken for a long family road trip - of course, with high powered charging infrastructure.

The hyperscreen is very impressive too, when it is ON. When it is off, I feel it looks like big black slab of granite stuck on the dashboard.

The car simply looks beautiful, classy & futuristic. Well done Mercedes Though opinions might be divided on the dual tone paint scheme of the car, features like Automatic doors, rear turning axles etc. on an EV do stand out. This truly is the S class of EVs !

Those giant screen la certainly look impressive but they are not gonna age well! Unless there is a way to update the processors as years pass by, the car would be unusable after 2 decades or so!

Nevertheless, I believe this is the first EV after the Taycan which seem to go head-to-head with Teslas! I hope more carmakers come up with good EVs and the tech trickles down!

The real competition to Tesla has started, and will have intensified in the next 5 years. Tesla enjoyed quite a first-mover advantage, but the big boys are learning fast. Just look at the EQS - great styling, snazzy interiors and will presumably have Mercedes' top build quality. The real talking point is the 770 km of driving range! That's huge for a luxury sedan and easily matches / beats the Teslas.

Meanwhile, Tesla is still selling the 9-year old Model S. We've seen THREE different S-Class generations in the time that the same Model S has been on sale. Just trying to illustrate the massive R&D and product capability of giant corporations like Mercedes vs Tesla.

Mercedes-Benz EQS adopts a new design of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family, equipped with a fully enclosed air grille, the identity of the electric car is very obvious.

From the side, the new car slip back shape is quite obvious, full of sports atmosphere. It is reported that the wind resistance coefficient of this car is only 0.20Cd, can be called one of the lowest wind resistance production models.

Its tail is equipped with a running tail light design, and the light belt inside the light cavity on both sides of the lamp cavity is spiraled and looks more stylish.

In terms of body size, the length, width and height are 5216/1926/1512mm, with a wheelbase of 3210mm.

From the interior, the first thing that came into view is a seamless one-piece design of the three-way screen, the entire screen width of more than 1420mm, with Mercedes-Benz's signature air-conditioning outlet, the overall sense of technology explosion shed. The Mercedes-Benz EQS is also the brand's first mass-produced model equipped with the MBUX Hyperscreen system, which AI AI AI has the ability to learn.

In terms of power, the new entry-level model is the EQS 450 Plus, with a rear axle single motor layout, maximum power of 245kW, peak torque of 550 Nm.

The flagship EQS 580 4MATIC is equipped with a motor on the front and rear axes with a maximum power of 385kW and a peak torque of 828 Nm, with an acceleration of 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

The car is equipped with a 108.7kWh lithium battery pack and is expected to have a range of 770km under WLTP operating conditions.

Saw the reviews of it and looks fabulous but all I could think was "Damn, just like other electronic devices such as mobile phones and TVs..we will have to/be forced to upgrade our cars every 2-3 years". Imagine how dated the interiors are going to look in 3 years when display tech leaps forward or when software updates are not available anymore? (btw is there any law for this yet in the automobile industry?)

I know that electric cars have already been sliming the lines between an automobiles and electronic device's but this takes it to another level with the multitude of screens and tracking devices in it! 10 years from now we would be fighting in-car ads and privacy from car makers!

Im aware this is a premium luxury product but even budget cars are going this route anyway.

Were these things ever in doubt? Mercedes and legacy makers are better coach builders. No question.
But, watch this video that brings forward the UI/UX. It's convoluted, the features have a feel of "everything and the kitchen sink", they don't make the car easier to interact with, more fun, or interesting.

With $100K USD, it will be 1.5C INR. It will be just rich folks' toy. BTW, how much would be price, without the gizmos, which is with just with electric transmission update?

(I do not need the car to open the door when I come near and all cost associating with the car recognizing me )

The paint scheme to me looks as if a black car was submerged partially in a big tub full of silver colour I want to see some pictures in a single shade of black.

But I'll not complain if someone gifts it to me in this exact shade. It will be a nightmare to keep 3 touchscreens clean and free of smudges.

While I am not a fan of the dual tone paintjob, the car looks fabulous in and out and the interiors are a different league compared to the competition. While Tesla still has an edge in the acceleration and performance figures, the rest of the accolades belong to the EQS. The Hyperscreen isnt standard on all variants. What would be standard is the display like the one on the 223, and then the Hyperscreen would be an option.

Mercedes uses similar dual colours to their Maybach cars, I do not think this car will cost less than $150K. The front passenger side screen can be opted out when you spec the car.

It's raining EQ's(and also e-Trons) will watch how many they deliver between EQA, EQB, EQC, EQS.
