Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

Having been a Polo owner for the last 9 years, I for one, would make a beeline to the VW Dealership to get this in my garage.

Yes, the design hasn't been updated since donkey's years (Indian market) and yes there are cars with features that would automatically disqualify the Polo from their consideration lists. Yes, the rear space is atrocious and the spares are relatively higher priced but having said and lived with these, I still would put 14-15 lacs on this New Polo. Why you ask? Well, ask any VW owner here and it'll probably be the same answer:

- Still feels as tight as the day it came off the showroom floor.
- No rattles, no squeaks, no paint dulling, no part failure etc.
- VW is the benchmark for solid built cars in the segment
- Most importantly- Driving pleasure (anyone who's not experienced a VW car on highways/curvy roads would not get this - the chassis, stability, driver's control etc. is superb)

I'm from a customer bracket who would purchase a car to keep it as long as possible (> 12-15 years) and if a car can still feel new in that duration with normal upkeep then that's what I'll be attracted to.

"All that is okay but it's a hatch and Indian roads are.....". Yes, it can't do off-road and if you live in a place where the potholes are the size of a mountain then you're better off with a suv/csuv. But in those 9 years I've lived with the car, I've driven along the length of the country twice and the width once. I would any day have a car with the dynamics and build of a polo than a higher riding one for the 10 per cent chance of going through a bad section. Knowing how to take the car on bad roads helps. I often get disappointed while driving newer cars with more powerful engines as there would inevitably be a section of the road (for the better part of the drive) where I would feel "Polo hoti toh sahi hota". I think all VW owners would have felt this at one point.

No, I don't baby the car and in fact it was flooded once while parked, hit by a state transport bus, a desire and a rickshaw at different occasions. Came back after the repairs just like it was. Yes, I do have tight maintenance schedule and look after the interiors and exteriors myself but I would do that for any car. Its just that Polos can put a smile on an enthusiast's face for a lot more years than other cars in it's segment and for that alone the New Polo should be a top contender not just for previous polo owners but for looking for more smiles per hour per year.

Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

I love the Polo. Ever since I saw my 1st one I have loved it.
I have seen a few mark2 polos in the UK but my 1st was the mark 3 that my room mate had. Forest green, small and dinky. He would plonk a canoe on top and go all around the UK in it. It was a very practical and well made no nonsense car. I hated the mark4 with the twin lights. Then came the mark 5 which we have in India even today. I think it is a really amazing car that still does not look out of place. If only, it had a little more rear seat leg room it would have been perfect for us. We sold off our GT TSI recently which has made me very sad. We never got the mark 6 here in India.
The new one looks like it is morphing into a golf! Much like I have hated the BMW 3 series morphing into the 5 series, I don't like this change in the Polo. But another way to look at it is, We never got the phenomenon that is the Golf.....maybe this can be the Golf we never got! Come on VW, bring it on!

Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

VW needs to meet the Indian market half way here and update the current polo to come somewhat in line with this 2021 polo
I'm guessing the 4m rule might be the reason for this hesitance to upgrade Indian polo
But I belive there is still a market for premium hatchbacks in India and polo can move decent numbers if it is updated
VW group needs to keep it faith in India market, it will surely payoff in long run as market matures

I don’t know if this picture is relevant to this post or not, but this is sad reality of attitude of Volkswagen towards Indian market.

and I cannot agree more. I paid a full 10L for the GT TSI way back in 2013 a week after it was launched. People thought I was raving mad, paying that kinda money for a hatchback with space issues. But boy, that is some car. Makes me grin every time I get behind the wheel (which is everyday )

I'd gladly pay 14-15L for this new Polo and I hope they'd get it here quick.

Absolutely! The car feels as tight as the day I drove it out of the showroom. No rattles, no play, nothing. It handles like a charm too, a no nonsense point and shoot car.

The Polo can do anything I tell you. Multiple times, it's waded through flooded roads with water lapping onto the bonnet. It was side-rear ended by a truck once and another time, some highway robbers hurled a rock at the passenger side door...both times the sheet metal had hardly anything to show for it. I've done 70k kms till date and there isn't a single squeak from the car.

I'd read somewhere on TBHP that the Polo was originally designed for college going kids as their 1st car and hence was built to take a lot of abuse. It takes a lot of abuse and some more with aplomb.

Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

The update comes at a time the Polo struggles to keep the leadership in the B-segment.

It was the 2nd bestselling B-car in Europe in 2019, but last year it fell to the 5th position behind models like Toyota Yaris and Opel Corsa.

It was still VW’s second most popular model in Europe.

Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

A cost reduced Polo under test. For Brazil and emerging markets.

Restyling will be partially equal to the European model, ie no Golf style lanterns in the new Volkswagen Polo 2023.

Quote:
It's no secret to anyone that Polo and Virtus will have what's new in the look for the 2023 line. But what still generated doubt was the rear of the hatch.

To lower production costs, the Brazilian Volkswagen Polo will not have flashlights invad ing the back cover. Unlike the European model, which was inspired by the Golf to make up its look, the new Polo 2023 will maintain the same current layout, which will not force Volkswagen to touch the trunk cover – something that has high development costs.
Quote:
The solution will be to change the internal layout of the lanterns. It is likely that all versions will start using LEDs, today restricted only to the top of the line GTS. Dimmed lenses with nivus and t-cross touch are also expected. In Virtus, the recipe will be the same: internal changes in the lanterns. Both also win new rear bumpers.

Re: 2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22

2023 Polo for Brazil spied again.

2021 Volkswagen Polo teased; global unveil on April 22-p1.jpg

Quote:
notice that the hatch will not have horizontal lanterns instilling the trunk cover as in the restyled European Polo, that is, it will retain the current shape of the lanterns that occupy the ends of the body.
Quote:
can expect is that the lanterns bring at least one redesign on the inside to gain a new visual signature. But the discovered part of the piece shows that the aisand arrow lights will remain in the same layout.
Quote:
Although the flashlight retains the same shape as the current model, at least the rear bumper will be the same as the European Polo, can see from the bottom with black plastic that simulate a rear diffuser where the corners are more highlighted than the center part.

It is not possible to confirm, but it is likely that the new Polo 2023 will still receive the reflectors soon after the creases that skirt the region of the plate. In the most the wheels still do not seem to be definitive, since they resemble the set currently used in the Comfortline version.
Quote:
In relation to the interior of the Polo 2023, a better level of finishing is expected to adjust the price in the range of R $ 100 thousand, in addition to new equipment such as the TFT instrument panel of the Taos Comfortline in the simplest versions and new safety equipment, such as adaptive autopilot with automatic braking system.

Quote:
The 1.0 TSI engine in the configuration of 128 hp and 20.4 kgfm of torque will be maintained for the Polo and Virtus Comfortline and Highline versions, always with the 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 1.4 turbo of 150 hp and 25.5 kgfm will continue to be offered only in the Sport Version Polo GTS

In the case of polo 170TSI, the declared yield will be 9.6 km/liter in the city and 11.6 km/liter on the road, when supplied with ethanol. Using gasoline, the numbers of polo 2023 rise to 13.8 km / liter in urban yield and 16.5 km / liter in the road cycle
Expect its launch in the third quarter of this year.
