Well known Japanese tuner DAMD has completely transformed the Daihatsu Taft to look like a little Defender, and its certainly a body kit that can turn heads, maybe for the wrong reasons.
On the front fascia, "Little-D"(the reason) is lettered in bold matt black, with a familiar looking Defender grille(grille and hood are a single unit) and an SUVish front bumper, which is merely a cosmetic touch. But it lends that muscular look to it, which makes it resemble an entry level defender.
The side profile has literally no resemblance to the defender. The only way it can be differentiated from the regular Taft is the blackened out mirrors and door handles, decals(an adventure quote and a Union Jack Flag), the wheels and the roof rack. It is equipped with steel rims with hub caps making it look rugged.
The rear profile is more or less the same, with minimal changes.
On the insides, the only change is the leather seat cover which reminds one of an 80's English sofa, although it is marketed by the company as "a nostalgic and gentle texture seat cover".
Although the visuals might get mixed reactions, it certainly looks much better than the model its based on (stock Daihatsu Taft). Kei cars are certainly an interesting category of vehicle, which might not be up to the taste of the average Indian customer. But according to me, this mod might make it a nimble mountain goat, serving as a taxi or a rental car for the hilly areas of Northern India.

Oh man, this looks like the lovechild of the S Presso and the Scorpio. Such funky vehicles somehow find acceptance in south east Asia and Japan. Such a car will sink in the Indian market in no time.
I would be extremely offended if I had put my hard earned money on a Defender and someone says that this horrible contraption looks anything close to it!! Wait, I am terribly offended lol:
I might be too biased towards Defenders, but does it really look anything like these ?

Bless the Japanese and their Kei cars, especially whatever zany soul who thought of this.
From the front, if anything it looks like it's channelling the Mk2 Range Rover than the current or old Defender. There's even something to be said about there being elements of Mk1 Discovery about it and a faint hint of the FJ Cruiser in the side profile and that rear quarter glass. Also as Shreyans_Jain pointed out, the dimensions definitely smack of the S-Presso, narrow and cubist.
At the end of the day tuners live on the attention drawn to them by out there tinkering efforts of theirs. Fair play to DAMD getting in on the little Tonka truck SUV craze, that too with a Kei car.
One of my favourite cars. BTW I currently own a Spresso and love it for what it offers. I really wish better loaded small cars be successfull in India because they are more suitable for our super congested cities.
