Raize: Toyota's sub-4m Compact SUV

According to a media report, Daihatsu will reveal a compact sub-4 metre SUV on November 5, 2019. Toyota's version could replace the Rush in the international market.

The car is expected to be a production version of the DN-Trec concept car and is said to measure 3.98 m in length. It will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA), which is a derivative of Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA).

The SUV could be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine and could be available in 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive variants. Under the Toyota brand, the car could be sold in more global markets than the outgoing Rush.

re: Raize: Toyota's sub-4m Compact SUV

This seems to be the age of SUVs. Sedan sales is decreasing day by day.

A sub 4 metre SUV is a master stroke from Toyota, which is doing all the right things recently (trying to forget Yaris while typing this sentence). It is also said that around the same time, Toyota is planning to launch a sub 4 metre Sedan. We have to wait and watch whether they are VFM.

Ford EcoSport, though a competent vehicle and the first compact SUV in India, is not even in top 4 position in the sub 4 metre SUV market in sales. The entry of Venue and now the prospective Toyota CSUV are bad news for EcoSport.

Let me guess what the top management will do to EcoSport in the face of rising competition: cut down existing features and increase the price by 10%.

IMO Toyota would not launch this car in Indian market, as they already have plans for re-badge Toyota(MS) Brezza.

re: Raize: Toyota's sub-4m Compact SUV

From what in know, DN-trec concept was revealed by Daihatsu (majorly owned by Toyota) at the Tokyo Motor show in 2017 and Toyota is bringing a badge engineered version of the same. Interesting bit is the use of DNGA platform, which is a modified version of the TNGA platform. Daihatsu has been successful in shedding some weight and gaining stiffness. This will be offered with a 1.0-litre turbo engine mated to a manual or an auto transmission and will also be offered in 4WD as well. This is squarely aimed at the Jimny and will feature a lot of safety systems including Autonomous braking.

The specifications and positioning indicate that Toyota will not bring this to India.

The CUV in discussion likely to retain the RUSH moniker and will arrive in Brazil in 2021, rivaling VW T Cross and Honda's HR-V.

The current Toyota Rush will be discontinued upon the arrival of this CUV.

After nearly 20 years of the launch of EcoSport, Toyota will be launching a rival for the most competitive segment of the Brazilian market, the compact SUV
Project Rush is accelerated in Toyota- Brasil after the idea of producing C-HR did not materialize due to the expensive platform and thus non competitive in pricing.

Quote:
Then Toyota launched a project of its low-cost car subsidiary, Daihatsu, which, from the Cuore platform developed an SUV called DN Trec.

The basis of this model will be used for the so-called Project 740B, which will be manufactured in Brazil from March 2021. The designated production plant will be that of Sorocaba, where the Etios and the Yaris are currently produced

re: Raize: Toyota's sub-4m Compact SUV

This is kind of confusing. Original Toyota Rush is more of a mid size SUV/MUV and even comes in 7 seater variant. New gen Rush is going to be a compact SUV ? That is the first time I am noticing a manufacturer demoting a brand name to a lower segment. Sub brands are ussually promoted to the next segment .Toyota does work in interesting ways. Has this happened before with any other manufacturer ?

Toyota's Compact SUV will be named RISE!

The compact SUV will be the successor to RUSH and will be unveiled in October.

Will come in 3 variants:

- entry grade X, intermediate grade G, and upper grade Z

- All of which have the same 1.0-liter inline 3-cylinder turbo engine.

-The tire size increases as the grade becomes higher, 15 inches / 16 inches / 17 inches.

Toyota Rise compact SUV to debut next month

All-new sub-four-metre compact SUV for global markets will also be sold as the Daihatsu Rocky in some countries.

Raize: Toyota's sub-4m Compact SUV-imageresizer-8.jpeg

Quote:
Toyota is set to unveil an all-new compact SUV next month. This new SUV, as reported by us earlier, will be a sub-four-metre vehicle, which the Japanese carmaker has decided to christen as the ‘Toyota Rise’. A badge-engineered version of the same sub-four-metre SUV will be sold by Toyota’s sister brand, Daihatsu, and will be called the Rocky. Both these SUVs are expected to be new ‘global SUVs’ for the Japanese carmaker and will be sold in multiple markets.

The SUVs will be production versions of the Daihatsu DN Trec concept showcased in 2017. While both are expected to have unique styling cues that will adhere to each brand’s design language, there will be fair bit of parts commonality, inside and out. Both models will get rugged front and rear bumper designs, a slightly raised ride height and other elements that will help to complete that muscular SUV look.

Under the skin, the SUVs will be based on Toyota-Daihatsu’s new DNGA modular platform specially designed for emerging markets. The engine will be a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit, and there’ll be two- and four-wheel-drive options as well.

Both SUVs will make their world premiere in Japan. Shortly after, it’ll launch in that market to take on Suzuki’s blockbuster Jimny.

Dimension-wise, the production-spec Toyota Rise and Daihatsu Rocky will, most probably, be similar to the concept – at 3.98 metres long, it is about the same size as the Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon, which are all sold in India.

While the engine and dimensions of the new Toyota Rise make it seem like a strong product from Toyota for India, there is no news of this SUV making it to a Toyota showroom near you.

The company does have a strategic alliance with Maruti Suzuki and will be introducing a slew of rebadged products in India; the first – the Toyota Glanza – has gone on sale in June 2019. Other rebadged products in the pipeline for Toyota in India are reworked versions of the Vitara Brezza compact SUV, Ciaz midsize sedan and Ertiga MPV

Re: Toyota Rise compact SUV to debut next month

I don't think this car will come to our shores any time soon. At least not for another 2-3 years for sure. Brezza fits their requirements here & comes with little investment requirements to setup assembly. The car also doesn't look to the tastes of our masses. Especially the face is too quirky and "Japanese". Off late we have been more inclined towards cleaner European looks (thank god!). It doesn't have a front bumper pretty much. Just a garish grille. What has happened to the Toyota designers? This has the family look resembling the Yaris sedan & we know how well that is selling in our country.

More than certainly we can assume that even if it comes to India, it will sport a different name. "Toyota Rise" is too similar to "Mahindra - Rise...". The Trademarks commission will surely side with M&M. And surely M&M will knock on their door if needed .

Very good looking alloys. But then - we Indians rarely get international spec alloys in our showrooms.

Toyota's successor to RUSH will be the new (code name: A-SUV) RISE. Equipment level and prices are out.

The dimensions are spot on for a sub 4m CSUV as per Indian system. But I don't see this coming to India as Toyota will most probably launch a refaced Brezza at Auto Expo 2020 in a petrol avatar.

Is the vehicle weight mentioned correctly? 980 kgs is less than many cars, and maybe all CSUVs!

Toyota Rush is a good name for the Brezza. Especially when compared to the Glanza!
