The new BMW 2-Series Coupe has entered its final phase of development before production begins in late summer.

Topping out the new 2-Series Coupe line-up (until the next M2 arrives) will be the M240i xDrive Coupe. This model will feature a BMW TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine pushing out 374 hp while mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. Power will be sent to the ground through an xDrive all-wheel drive system, although BMW notes that this system is rear-wheel oriented. This variant will also feature an M sports differential.

BMW has teased the next-generation 2 Series Coupe by sharing images of a pre-production prototype.



The new 2 Series will feature a more conventional twin-kidney grille. It is expected to be less polarizing than the 4 Series. Reports suggest that BMW will not offer a convertible version this time around.



The new 2 Series will retain its front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. It could be offered with 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. The M240i variant will be powered by a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, 6-cylinder engine producing around 380 hp. It will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive variants will also be on offer.



The new 2 Series Coupe is set to go into production later this year, while the high-performance M2 will inevitably follow.

Traditional grille? Front engined and rear wheel drive? Seems like BMW is finally waking up and going back to it's roots. I never liked the F44's face or the FF setup anyway. This is a welcome change.

I'd much rather they bring in the 2 door coupe rather than the current 2 series which we have in India.

Atleast it would have stand out aesthetics rather than being an overpriced compact sedan.

The 2nd generation BMW 2 series coupe has been unveiled.



It will have three engine options:
220i: 2.0-litre turbo four with 181bhp and 300nm.
220d: with a mild-hybrid 2.0-litre diesel four making 188bhp and 400nm.
M240i xDrive: 3.0-litre petrol straight six and four-wheel drive with 369bhp and 500nm.
The full-fat M2 Coupé and a mid-rung 241bhp 230i variant will arrive later in 2022.

Each model uses an eight-speed automatic gearbox with Launch Control and Sprint mode functionality. The M240i, adds an electronic rear differential in line with its heightened handling focus, and its xDrive four-wheel drive system is programmed to give a rear bias in true BMW sports car fashion.

The new range-topper hits 100km/h from rest in just 4.3sec and tops out at an electronically limited 250km/h. Efficiency, meanwhile, is pegged at 13.65-14.84kmpl, which compares with 17.64-19.05kmpl for the 220i and 23.55-25.55kmpl for the 220d.

The coupé is slightly larger than its predecessor, at 4537mm long and 1838mm wide, but stands 28mm shorter, at 1390mm tall.

Nope. No oversized chrome grilles or vertical ones. A sight for sore eyes. Could look at that perfect sized grille for hours.




Insiders say a manual transmission will come later, while most probably we can expect only the M2 to be launched in India next year. Super glad to see the second generation of my dream BMW launched, without any dirty surprises.

The rear end looks so freaking ugly!
Looks like a Korean design. Not the current ones because they all look pretty decent but the yesteryear fare.

Why can't the Germans get their designs right? Even if they make evolutionary changes to their current design language we will end up with a good looking car. Lord knows why they bother with revolutionary changes.

Apart from the M2, I hope BMW can also get the standard models. A M240i sounds real good to my ears.

Looks like a current gen 2 series ran away with an Elantra and they had a baby.
2 series coupe in 220i and M240i would be an interesting launch in India,I feel there is an untapped market for a 2 seater coupe in urban parts of India. Would be interesting to see if it is on radar of BMW India as a potential launch.

I have mixed feelings about the design. I am happy that they kept the small grill .

The back does not look like a BMW . It reminds me of the Fiat 124 spider. Not pretty , but looks fine I guess.

The front is pretty meh. The headlights are missing the angel eyes. The headlights again remind me of the ones on the Fiat 124 spider.


However I am pretty sure this will drive like a BMW.

That rear end is just HORRID

Front end is yet digestible and the interior looks pretty much unchanged.

No matter how much ///M power they put in the M2C, it won't improve the rear end.

BMW and Toyota's JV seems to be giving the Germans a flavour for quirky designs and it almost seems to me that the chap that designed the new quirky Supra has something to do with this hideous design.

Glad they kept the front grille intact, but for how long?

Seeing BMWs design strategy of wanting to introduce more and more bi-polar designs, I dont think this front end will last long. The bumper and the grille is the easiest to modify in a minor facelift.
The front is not bad, but that random massive triangle shape in the bumper seems out of place.

But that rear end, seriously?
The rear end of all new BMWs below the 5 series are starting to feel extremely awkward IMO. Remove that rear BMW badge and I am sure some my actually mistake one for being a Korean sedan (especially the 2 Gran Coupe).

They have taken what was one of the last beautiful BMWs and turned it into a Hyundai.
The classic lines and look of the now previous gen 2 Series/M2 was what reminded one of what BMWs should look like.
Personally I'm sorely disappointed with this design.

This has to be one of the ugliest cars to come out of the BMW stable. They have outdone even the designers of the X7 and latest 7 series with those massive grills. Can't believe they've dumped the double ringed headlights! So the kidney grills to get the axe in the next 'new' BMW?
