4th-gen Kia Carnival scores 5 stars in ANCAP crash tests

The fourth-generation Kia Carnival has scored 5 stars in crash tests conducted by the Australian NCAP (ANCAP).

The Carnival was awarded 90% for adult occupant protection, 88% for child occupant protection, 68% for vulnerable road user protection and 82% for safety assists.

The passenger compartment of the Carnival remained stable in the frontal offset test. The car offered adequate protection for the upper and lower legs of the driver and upper legs of the passenger. It offered good protection for all other critical body regions.

The front structure of the Carnival presented a low-moderate risk to the occupants of an oncoming vehicle in this test. In the full-width frontal test, good protection was offered to all critical body regions of both the driver and rear passenger, except the neck and chest of the rear passenger where protection was adequate. In the side impact and oblique pole tests, protection offered to all critical body regions was good.

The Carnival comes with a host of safety features and driving assists. These include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with car, pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), High Beam Assist (HBA), Smart Cruise Control (SCC) or Navigation-based SCC (NSCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Highway Driving Assist (HDA), and Surround View Monitor (SVM). It also gets Safe Exit Assist (SEA), which prevents the sliding rear doors from opening if the system detects a vehicle approaching from behind.

I don't think we should be happy/hopeful at all!
Reason: Kia Seltos also scored 5 Stars in ANCAP but ours (Indian Seltos) performed pathetic in GNCAP.

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival scores 5 stars in ANCAP crash tests

This is what makes me unhappy. As a Car Manufacturer nobody should doubt the capability of KIA/Hyundai on building 5-Star rated safe automobiles. The intent to milk money from Indian consumers by penny pinching on safety is what makes them evil. All this savings to are for showcasing increased earnings by the board of directors sitting in South Korea. This may make them rich but they are building their riches on unknowing Indian dead bodies. They might cite that they are not breaking any law in India, but if they have any morals or conscience let them put their hands on their hearts and decide if they would build such unsafe cars in Korea,USA & EU. I'm 100% sure, if seat belts weren't mandated by Government of India these companies would have skipped them as well and pocketed the money.

Of course we cannot blame all on the manufacturers. Government has equal responsibility, but they are best being 'Rip Van Winkle' in real life. And then the consumers of these cars...I'm not sure when they realize safe cars should be preferred over bling & fuel economy?

Sorry if I might have sounded harsh.

As per some of the previous threads, there were no structural changes and the no changes in the use of ultra high strength steel for Indian made Kia Carnival unlike Kia Seltos.

Yep, that's true. Cars with a low localisation level don't see much "Indianisation" which is just a fancy term for cheapening the product. However:

1. The comments on this thread though show just what happens to a brand that ruined its own reputation on the safety front. Well-deserved flak IMHO.

2. Ford did cheapen the 40-lakh rupee Endeavour (Pics: Chassis of Indian Ford Endeavour has less support than the international version!).

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival scores 5 stars in ANCAP crash tests

India has more often than not received step-motherly treatment from most of the car manufacturers when it comes to incorporating safety measures at par with the global standards.

Resultantly, we have had automobiles with durable ANCAP/GNCAP ratings suddenly appearing susceptible to collosal damage on impact when confronting a mishap in India.

Airbags, Belt Tensioners, ABS, ESP, and hill-start assist have been offered by manufacturers as optional extras reserved as standard fitments only on the top-end trims which is testament to their approach of treating passenger safety as an afterthought and something which is amenable to be compromised in the interest of cost-cutting.

The 4th Gen Carnival with an ostensibly impressive feature list was reserved for the international markets whilst Kia was content in launching the 3rd Gen variant merely a few months before the next gen was due! If that isn't taking your consumers for granted, I don't know what else is; Perhaps, it is the 5th Gen Polo soldiering on with it various special editions and facelifts!

Re: 4th-gen Kia Carnival scores 5 stars in ANCAP crash tests

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) is set to reveal safety ratings for two cars on Wednesday, 8th September 2021 (Australian time). Clues posted by ANCAP indicate that the cars tested will be the 2021 Toyota Mirai FCEV (which, apparently, has never been independently tested before by any NCAP) and the 2021 Subaru Outback.

Moderators, please move this to a relevant thread if necessary; I considered posting it here since I thought the models and rating don't concern India and hence don't need a new thread, and this thread contains the last ANCAP rating that was released.

The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) is set to reveal safety ratings for two cars on Friday, 24th September 2021 (Australian time). Clues posted by ANCAP indicate that the cars tested will be the 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross and the 2021 Isuzu ΜU-X (both Australian-spec cars). The ΜU-X will be tested locally in Australia since it is not sold in Europe but it remains to be seen whether the Yaris Cross will be locally tested or tested by Euro NCAP with a rating extension.
