Mitsubishi Evo X ......unleashed !

The stunning new rally-inspired model promises to take the famous name to incredible new heights, bettering the performance of all nine of its predecessors. ............

Its looking brilliant! Unlike Subaru, the Mitsubishi guys are going FORWARD in terms of design at least. This looks killer! Didn't like the rear part that much though. But does this mean the new rally car will be based on this?

it's expected that the new engine will deliver a healthy 320bhp, with around 440Nm of torque. This should easily be enough power to propel the Evo X from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 160mph.
Awesummm! Thats some 30-35 horses and 40 Nm of torque more than the IX..

The Evo is one model where the next metamorphosis is always an in-your-face certified desirable

With the radiator / intercooler exposed like that, what happens if the car ahead kicks up a large stone or something?

I was thinking the same. These does seem to be a mesh grille in front of it, but will it be enough?

In hindsight, this car is not designed for places with large stones in front of it. I'm sure their WRC versions will be suitably adapted.

Am sure this aspect of the design has been thought of by the engineering team. Its not meant for rally . Am sure Ralliart will do something about it to suit rally conditions when they develop the WRC version. Anyway its going to look dangerously gorgeous ..... in WRC guise.

Well, ajit, if aimed correctly, you'll end up with a rock in your intercooler / radiator.

That doesn't detract from the fact that the Evo X is absolutely gorgeous. Heck, just look at those fender, bonnet, door & rear section curves.

I really, really want one.

The only sceptical piece would be the global platform has been given my Daimler Chrysler..... and it has been speculated that this not an exciting platform....

Wonder why would Mitsubishi... work on a global platform when their existing one is loved and worshipped

Until the X, my favorite looking EVO was the VI...very well-proportioned and with timeless design. But the X is a killer with its aggression. Undoubtedly the best looking EVO yet.

Whats with offering a slush-box on an EVO? And why not 6-speed manual yet?

To quote the Road & Track article linked by Rtech:
ROADandTRACK.com -- Auto Shows - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (6/2007)

" ... A standard 5-speed manual gearbox and a new 6-speed twin-clutch automatic with manual mode, codenamed SST, will be offered. The latter is similar to Volkswagen's DSG, meaning that it's essentially a manual transmission that has a seamless full automatic mode. In manual mode, up- and downshifts are performed sequentially via paddles behind the steering wheel, with each gear change performed faster than any human hand. An anonymous source inside the company claims that this new transmission will be better than VW's.

“Because ours comes well after Volkswagen's version, we needed to make it noticeably better or our customers won't be satisfied. And we're talking about the Evo here, so the feeling is that if our semiautomatic isn't perfect, we'd be better off offering just a conventional manual transmission,” he said. Expect the car's 0-60-mph and quarter-mile times to remain about the same as the Evo IX's, maybe slightly better with the SST because of quicker upshifts. ... "

Well, costs, for one reason. Both development & manufacturing. This would enable Mitsubishi to offer their product & parts cheaper than would be possible with a full scale development.
