Jeep is reported to be looking at sturdier windshield options for its Wrangler & Gladiator models in the USA. According to a media report, one option that the American manufacturer is considering is the introduction of 'Gorilla Glass'.
This sturdier option comes amidst customer complaints of cracks developing regularly on the windshields of these models, because of stone chips during regular driving. It is believed that the rake angle of the windshields on the Wrangler and Gladiator models makes it more susceptible to debris.
The Gorilla Glass windshield option is said to use the same chemical coating technology as the glass used in mobile phones and gives it three times higher impact resistance compared to standard glass windshields. It is also lighter and thinner than standard glass.
Jeep dealers are expected to price the new Gorilla Glass windshield option at US$ 95 (Rs. 7,050). Once introduced, the company expects at least 80% of its Wrangler and Gladiator customers to select the option.

If this is truly a regular problem then I think Jeep has some internal adjustments that they need to make to maybe the quality of the normal glass being used. Yes, I agree with the fact that since the problem is with the rake angle an immediate solution can't be developed but there has got to be something better than a "paid solution" IMHO.
On the other hand, I feel it is great that tech such as Gorilla glass is being offered on a mass-market car that too at a very affordable price-point. I wish other German marques take a lesson from Jeep on how to price certain additional options on the car. :uncontrol
Important to note that Gorilla glass was already offered by dealers, and has also been available in the USA after-market. But it was way more expensive at $500 - 600! Guess that's the difference a manufacturer's volume purchasing brings.

At the $95 price, it's a no-brainer for a tougher windscreen. As you rightly said, chipping is a big problem in Jeeps due to their windscreen angle.
