Chevrolet Camaro could be replaced with an all-electric sedan

The Chevrolet Camaro muscle car could be replaced by an all-electric performance sedan in the future.

According to a media report, Chevrolet will phase out the IC-engine powered Camaro muscle car in 2024. However, instead of retiring the nameplate, Chevrolet could use it for an electric sedan. The report, though, does not specify any timeline for the launch of the replacement EV model.

The Chevrolet Camaro is currently in its 6th-generation iteration. The range-topping variant of the muscle car - the Camaro ZL1 is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine producing 650 BHP.

Sales of the Chevrolet Camaro have been dwindling in recent times. The Camaro lost out to both its main rivals - the Dodge Challenger & Ford Mustang in Q2 of 2021.

Now, with General Motors slowly transiting to EVs, Chevrolet could take a similar approach as Ford, by leveraging the 'Camaro' nameplate on the rumoured upcoming electric sedan.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E has been received well in international markets. Last month, the electric SUV recently even outsold the petrol Mustang for the first time. Chevrolet will be looking to replicate this with the Camaro.

Re: Chevrolet Camaro could be replaced with an all-electric sedan

They are trying to ride a wave which is just a fad. With the infrastructure in America already under stress, there is no way America can put together a brand new infrastructure to support the electric bandwagon, especially after factoring in the battery replacement and disposal costs involved.

After having vanquished the competition without outselling the cars with Combustion engines in the world market, one country will hold sway in the markets of both cars and wheeled gadgetry.
