And this is exactly why China is so important not only as a the factory of the world but also as a consumer market. To put it into perspective, Chinese sales are almost the combined sales of Europe and USA both! Astonishing!

India is not even in the list, even below Mexico or Brazil. If we had the same priorities as the Chinese, we should have been doing atleast half the Chinese numbers given we were almost similar sized economies not too long ago.

There are a few companies that planned their 'chips' better than others and Audi is one of them. While Audi is also affected, it appears to be less so than the others. The car market is back & how (especially in China), due to many reasons (pent up demand, revenge spending etc.). Always happy to see such news.

Sucks though that Audi India is a shadow of its global self.

Re: Audi Group records best H1 in history with 10-lakh car sales

Other comparisons aside, the striking factor is just how large the Mexican and Brazilian luxury car markets are in relation to India. It seems that the sales of Audi in Brazilian is more or less similar to the sales of Mercedes in India (the top dog in the Indian luxury market) but with a population smaller than UP. Mexico's luxury car market seems even bigger by about 25% as compared to India but with a population similar to Maharashtra.

We might bang on about how Indians are smarter and buy more reliable Fortuners instead but I think the real problem is that there just isn't enough upper-middle class Indians (by international standards) who can afford cars >40 lakhs. It does pop the bubble on how we perceive India's rise in the world.

PS sorry this was way out of topic.
