The new G will increase significantly in size, gaining 10" in wheelbase to 122" and 20" in overall length compared to the predecessor. It comes with seven seats standard and can store 2600 liters of luggage behind the third row. While it shares some technicals with the new M-Class, it is to have its own independant design, more trucky with larger wheel cutouts, shorter overhangs and a taller stance familiar from the predecessor. Engineers developed a special off-road package with dual range transfer box, disengageable stabilizer bars, additional Airmatic functions, 100% lockable differentials mid and rear, 19" wheels and a driving dynamic system suitable for the rough. With different overhangs and side rails the new G exceeds the predecessor's fording depth, breakover angle and ground clearance. Like the new ML and R, the new G will have the new 7G-Tronic seven speed automatic speedbox with shift-by-wire lever on the steering wheel. It is to be built in Vance on a line with the new M-Class and R-Class starting in the spring of 2006. These new four valve gas and diesel engines are planned, all new developments, specs *estimated*:
G 450: * * * *4.6 liter V8, M273 321 hp
G 550: * * * *5.5 liter V8, 402 hp
G 63 AMG: 6.3 liter V8, 456 hp
G 300 CDI: 3.0 liter V6, OM642 228 hp ($55,000)
G 400 CDI: 4.0 liter V8, OM629 295 hp

Old G to be continued in India
The old G is to be continued under license in India and costs about € 20,000 new. Bajaj already produces the gear boxes for Daimler-Steyr-Puch, and there is an agreement that each Bajaj can be serviced at Daimler dealers, since parts are mainly the same. It has an inline diesel injection pump and can thus even be used with biodiesel.
