BMW is said to be testing a performance variant of its popular X1 SUV in the international market. The new performance-oriented version, called the X1 M35i is expected to be unveiled sometime in 2022.



Although not a full-blown M model, the new BMW X1 M35i is said to feature a bunch of upgrades and M performance accessories, over the standard model. Once introduced the M35i version will be the range-topping variant in the X1's lineup.



The SUV is said to come powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine which is expected to produce around 350 BHP. The engine will further be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. BMW will also offer the X1 M35i with its xDrive AWD system as standard. Being a performance model, the X1 M35i will also come with larger brakes, stiffer suspension and re-tuned steering.



In terms of styling, the 2023 BMW X1 M35i will feature a sportier look, thanks to the M body kit, which includes redesigned front and rear bumpers, side sill extensions, quad-tail pipes and a rear diffuser.
