Honda SUV RS is rumored to be called the New 'WR-V'

The Honda SUV RS is predicted to carry the same platform as the Honda BR-V.

it is recorded that the car has the codes DG47 and DG48. This code is similar to the latest Honda BR-V, namely the DG31. Each model also gets a "1.5" engine, available with a choice of E and RS models, as well as manual or CVT transmission options.

Honda SUV RS launching next week could be the second generation of the existing WR-V that is /was sold in a few markets like India, South Africa, and South America.

there have been a few clues which point to the WR-V name being used above anything else. The teaser video shows the letter W in the background while during its tour around Indonesia, the ‘double-U’ is also emphasized prominently.

all-new WR-V could essentially be a 5-seater version of the BR-V. That meant a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC (121 PS/145 Nm) could be powering the compact crossover which is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic.

As for the interior, it wasn’t previewed when the SUV RS Concept was revealed but the WR-V’s interior could be a combination of the BR-V and Brio RS but largely based on the former.

Not surprising since the WR-V is targeted at a younger demographic than the BR-V, the compact crossover could get sporty and bright accents on the dashboard panel and red stitching on the upholstery.

Besides that, the all-new WR-V could also feature Honda Sensing ADAS just like the BR-V as well as Honda LaneWatch. The latter is seen up close on the heavily wrapped camo car.

Oh, finally! what should have been done long back is, hopefully, here. For some reason, Honda is reluctant to bring its Turbo petrol engine to India. In my view, Turbo petrol + iVtec could form a potent combination...anyway, with 1.5L iVtec engine car should have enough grunt to race past its competitors. Going by the photos, I somehow feel this car will be in the CSUV segment replacing the erstwhile WRV. If this engine is paired to Honda's traditional CVT automatic, this car could offer good alternative to 1.0L Turbo Petrol+DCT (Korean twins) and 1.0TSI+TC(German twins), and, should be definitely better than AMT-equipped Indians (Nexon and XUV300).


This product is critical and, should help Honda improve sales in Indian market. Hence, pricing this product right is very crucial.

The way Japanese does business is different from the American style. Honda might not leave India with such a drama.
If this Vehicle is coming to India, I am more concerned about Honda being over optimistic and ruin the launch with pricing.

Hopefully they will launch the WRV in India with the 1.5ltr engine and CVT. But looking at Honda's track record here, wont be surprised to see it with the amaze's engine and only a manual option to "keep costs down". And of course, with non-adjustable rear head rests.

The original WRV was Jazz in Stilts and the new WRV is Amaze in Stilts. I see lot of Amaze right from the front fascia, fog housings, DRL's to the bottom half, that strong beltline and the combi lights on the hatch door.

Some details leaked in Indonesia of the New WR-V

- The RS SUV, which comes with the codes DG47 and DG488, has five variants, namely E MT, RS MT, E CVT, RS CVT and RS CVT Z.

- It can be seen that the model with the code DG 47 will be a variant with a manual transmission, while the DG 48 uses a CVT automatic transmission. Then the highest variant will use the name as RS CVT Z.

- Prices to be ~ IDR 163 million to IDR 189 million. (~INR 8.6 - 10 Lakh)

- Will rival Rocky, Raize, Sonet, Magnite, in the Indonesian compact SUV market.

- The engine is 1.5L, which seems to be the same as the BR-V

-The transmission is offered with a choice of manual as well as CVT.

- The list of the most interesting top variants is of course the Z variant which is likely to bring Honda Sensing technology as its ace.

380L boot is the biggest in the CSUV segment and 220m ground clearance is massive. There is no news from dealers or Honda about introducing this model in India. However, if it does, I am sure it will bring good sales numbers for Honda.

Bringing this to India will require huge modifications, either to decrease the length to bring it under 4m and putting 1.2l engine or increasing the length to match with Creta / Seltos.

Current length of 4060mm puts it in neither here nor there position with respect to Indian market IMHO.

Honda needs a car like this in India.

If they could also plonk the 1.5L diesel + AT combination from the Amaze, I would really consider it as an upgrade from my 2017 Honda Jazz D MT.
