Re: Toyota USA teases the first ever GR Corolla Hatch

This is incredible. I think Toyota just launched my dream car hot on the heels of the news that Subaru won't be making new STI.

AWD with rear bias, MT, 300hp, and the best thing: hatch back form factor. Add Toyota reliability to the mix for added effect. GR Supra, GR 86, GR Yaris and GR Corolla one after another Toyota is doing so many right things.

Even with that absurd 3 exhaust outlet design IMO this is much subdued compared to Civic R which screams boy racer. Also the transmission seems to be proper manual (and not clutch-less iMT like in Hyundai) even though Toyota calls it iMT. I think the "i" in iMT is coming from automatic rev matching when you downshift.

Not just India, those in Europe and Middle East as well!

It's North America's moment now

only going to build 8,600 units in total (globally) for the first year, and that includes the fancy Circuit Edition.

Of the 6,600 units coming to the states, 1,500 of them will be made in the fully-loaded Circuit Edition spec. It gets special suede-trimmed seats, big hood vents, limited-slip differentials, black-painted exterior trim, and a big spoiler in the rear. A carbon-fiber roof is an exclusive touch that Core trim buyers won’t be able to spec though.

Which is quite surprising, given how MT cars make up barely 1% or less of the total cars sold in US, whereas it is quite the opposite in Europe.

But this GRC seems to hit the nail on the head when it comes to relatively cheap cars for enthusiasts. Now if Toyota prices it below the Golf R, I think they have a winner. Past year or so has seen the launch of a couple of good fun to drive cars with a manual transmission that one can afford without robbing a bank!

The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla:

Quote:
Recently, Toyota shared a sponsored a video through AutoGuide with the automaker’s Formula Drift driver Ken Gushi behind the wheel of a prototype GR Corolla. The clip includes some awesome driving footage of the hot hatch while Gushi also offers some handy tips to exploit all the performance offered up by the GR Corolla.

Read somewhere that BMW and Porsche keeps on offering manual transmission due to US market demand.

Maybe they have been used to automatics for so long that, driving a stick has become some sort of 'enthusiast' only stuff or yardstick for a propah fun car.
