| ![]() The first set of spy images of the next-generation BMW M5 is out. The images showcase a heavily camouflaged model with a sticker on the doors, saying 'Hybrid test vehicle', confirming that the next-gen M5 will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. ![]() While the images do not reveal much of the design, the test mule can be seen sporting large brake discs, along with quad-exhaust tips confirming that the model is indeed the performance-oriented version of the 5 Series. The camouflage also hides an extra fuel cap on the front fender that is likely to house the charging connector. ![]() The next-gen BMW M5 could come with an updated V8 engine paired with the plug-in hybrid unit. The German carmaker is currently said to be working on updating the V8 engine to comply with the emission norms while also making it more efficient. While the power output is yet to be revealed, reports suggest that the new hybrid powertrain could produce in the range of 750 BHP. ![]() Reports also state that while the next-gen BMW 5 Series is expected to be unveiled in 2023, the M5 could make its debut only by early-2024. | ![]() At least BMW is going in the right direction by adding hybrid tech while retaining the V8. Unlike Mercedes, where I expect the next E63 to have a 1.0L 3 cylinder with 700hp :P |

| ![]() Don't know much about this but beyond lowering emissions slighlty, and perhaps adding some short range, good for city commute, Hybrids are useless. They increase the weight, costs & affect the handling with marginal benefits. |

I know it's not unheard of with the M5, I mean the current gen F90 M5 and it's S63 Twin Turbo V8 can push ridiculous hp numbers if you tune it but damn 750hp from the factory? Maybe all that Dosa and Idli that the BMW Execs have been eating near TVS HQ has had some sort of effect eh? ![]() This may as well be the last V8 powered BMW M5 on sale ever and looks like BMW are sending out the last generation of V8 M5 with a bang (literally). Maybe I can pick up one of these V8 Hybrid beasts in the future (used of course) if my plans to move to the UK come to fruition, fingers crossed ![]() Last edited by GreasyCarb55 : 14th January 2022 at 23:07.

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() BMW has hit it out of the park and then some with the current M5 CS. Many international reviews and journos that I follow are head over heels with that machine. Some have it as their COTY and Henry C says it's a supercar in disguise. It can do it all. Whop cars in a straight line with that wicked launch, shrink and go like race car around bends, and carry 4 people and their luggage while at it. Also, it's not devoid of any feel. And did I say it looks good, from all angles and not just from underneath? A proper BMW that! And I expect more of the same here with this one. In these final chapters with ICE power, BMW is leaving no stones unturned. it's as if they suddenly realised that the chapter ain't going to run long and let's cram all in. ![]() |

The M5 is a Dark Horse in a world of supercars. People read/hear about how great it is and how Comfort, Practicality and SPEED can go hand in hand but then more often than not ignore it for the flashier options like the Lamborghini's and Porsche's of the world. You want a one of a kind V10 powered sedan that can leave the average Porsche owner shellshocked? Have an E60 M5 sedan with a V10, there was coupe/sportier version called the M6 (not related the 6 Series GT we get) and even a V10 powered WAGON designated the E61 M5 Touring. With the era of EV's on the horizon the crazed V10's of the late 90's and 2000's will likely never return. Last edited by GreasyCarb55 : 15th January 2022 at 16:06.
