Ford patents remote-controlled engine revving system; Could be offered even on EVs

Ford has patented a new technology which allows its customers to remotely rev the car's engine, without requiring someone to be inside it. While the patent was filed last year, it was only recently published by the USPTO (US Patents & Trademarks Office).

As per the patent details, the technology will work in conjunction with Ford's remote engine start feature. Customers can set a revving pattern for their engines via an app and at the push of a button, the car's engine will rev to a specified rpm limit. The system can also be tuned to perform a user-selected routine of either steady acceleration or multiple short bursts up to a pre-determined rpm. It also allows the exhaust valve on the car to be opened or closed to further change the tone.

The patent also covers engine notes emitted by the car's sound system, suggesting it could be offered on EVs as well.

As per the patent, the reason for the new system is to enhance the appeal of Ford's performance models to customers.
