Renault-Google partner to develop a new 'Software-defined vehicle' together

According to media reports, Renault Group is expanding its partnership with Google to develop a new "Software-Defined Vehicle" (SDV), based on the tech giant's Android Automotive OS.

Reports state that the new car will have Google as its "preferred cloud provider" and will deliver continuous upgrades and on-demand services. The SDV will even allow predictive maintenance, with near real-time detection & rectification of failures. The car will also offer a personalised experience, adapting to the driver's behaviour, such as frequent destinations, EV charging stations used, and more. This personalisation of the vehicle will also help the companies to issue insurance based on the actual usage and driving behaviour of the owner.

Google will also develop a "Digital Twin" of the car, which it hopes will help accelerate the rate of development. The virtual car will allow the company to test out different features & services using its advanced AI capabilities and better integrate them into the vehicle, while also easily introducing multiple on-board and off-board applications, delivering on its promise of continuous upgrades.

The Renault-Google Alliance first started back in 2018. As part of the deal, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance integrated Google's software platform & services into its vehicles.

To someone who drives a 2014 Gurkha, the above sounds a lot like tech BS.
