The F1-engine-powered Mercedes-AMG One has set a new lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. The record lap, according to Mercedes, was completed on 28th October 2022.
The AMG One hypercar was piloted by Maro Engel, a Nurburgring 24-hour winner & DTM competitor. Engel set a blistering fast time of 6:35.183, making the AMG One the fastest production car around the famous track. The AMG One beat the previous lap record set by a Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey by nearly 8 seconds in 2021. The lap time of the AMG One was following the new official standard, which was changed recently to utilise the same start/finish line in section T13 of the track.
The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar is powered by a 1.6-litre V6 engine revving up to 11,000 rpm. This is mated to four electric motors, two at the front, one to the engine and another to the turbocharger. The hybrid powertrain produces upwards of 1000 BHP and is the closest to a street-legal F1 race car.

It could have done a sub 6.30 if the conditions would have been better.
It shows how Hybrids have developed so much after the record done by the Porsche 918 at the ring 9years ago !
This just shows how good the 'old' GT2 RS was, that it took a Mercedes Hypercar many years later to break its record! The new GT2 RS one will surely claim the record back or come very close to it, probably even without the MR treatment!

The GT2 RS MR did the lap in ideal conditions but for the AMG ONE the conditions were far from perfect as you can see in the Onboard, it was wet and leaves were scattered in some portions of the track. Also the AMG ONE is not suitable for such a long track it's suitable for GP tracks as it had to manage its battery power and not go flat out.
It's the same case for the GT Black Series also, if the conditions were ideal it would have caught up with the GT2 RS MR.
