Maruti Suzuki debuted the 5-door version of the Jimny and Fronx crossover at the Auto Expo 2023. Now, both models are headed down under.



Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Jimny and Fronx in the Australian market in the coming months. Both cars will be manufactured in India.

The Jimny 5-door has a wheelbase of 2,590 mm, which is slightly longer than the 3-door version. In India, the off-roader is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.



The Fronx is based on the Heartect platform and comes with either a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 99 BHP and 147 Nm or a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 89 BHP and 113 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic and an AMT.

The technical specifications of the Australia-spec Jimny and Fronx are yet to be announced.

First 5d Jimny arrives in Australia:

The first five-door Suzuki Jimny 'XL' to land in Australia has been registered for local roads, with pricing for the highly-anticipated 4x4 due in less than a month.

In September, the car-maker claimed it held more than 1500 pre-orders for the Jimny XL, which will be produced for Australia in India – rather than Japan as with the locally-delivered three-door Jimny.

While Suzuki previously said pricing and specifications for the Jimny XL would be released in November, it has now confirmed the information will be available on December 5 – just a handful of weeks before customer deliveries are due to begin between January and March 2024.

Prices for the Suzuki Jimny five-door have been confirmed ahead of first deliveries due at the start of next year.

- Five-door costs $3000 more than three-door
- Same engine, features and choice of transmissions
- Priced from $34,990 plus on-road costs

It is a $3000 premium over the equivalent three-door version – though the current price for the three-door is $8000 higher than it was at the current model's launch nearly five years ago.

Suzuki Australia says it has received more than 2000 pre-orders for the five-door Jimny since it was unveiled close to a year ago – and buyers who order now are quoted wait times of six to nine months.

Probably this number 2000 is incorrect in that article? It doesn't makes sense as to why the waiting period will be 6-9 months for 2000 cars.
