Toyota gifts new Highlander after owner loses his 16-lakh km model in Hurricane

Mark Miller, a resident of Florida, USA, recently lost his 2006 Highlander in a category-4 hurricane that hit the west coast state in September 2022. The SUV had been used by Miller as his daily and had managed to cover 1 million miles (16.09 lakh km) over the course of his ownership.

Now, according to reports, Toyota gifted Mark Miller a brand new model, free of charge, to help keep its memory alive. In a statement, the carmaker stated that the goodwill gesture was done as a 'thank-you' to Miller for being a loyal customer. Reports state that Miller, who owns an asphalt paving company, used his Highlander extensively for towing trailers and sometimes even as a mobile office.

The old Toyota Highlander was said to have been maintained by Germain Toyota in Naples. However, there isn't much information released on the maintenance and repairs done on the SUV during its 1 million miles. Reports state that the Toyota dealer had given Miller a cooler when his SUV touched 500,000 miles. While Miller was expecting another gift when he was asked to stop by the dealership after crossing 1 million miles, he didn't expect a brand-new Highlander SUV.

This isn't the first time Toyota has given a new car to a customer free of charge. Back in 2019, Toyota gifted nurse Alynn Pierce a brand new Tundra, after her car burnt down while rescuing people from the California Wildfires.

I hope Toyota Bharat also comes up with a loyalty reward programme!
We have a Petrol Innova which was part of the first batch of April 2005. It has done 200000 kms and is still running fine with just the standard annual service at the local dealer.
Will we get at least a discount if we upgrade to the Hycross Hybrid

Don't take my word for this, but I am pretty sure there was an incident like this in India as well. It was involving an Innova (if my memory is correct, from Tamil Nadu) which has crossed a 10 lac kilometres. I remember reading a news article about it and seeing a photo of it's odo with "999999" on it. It was many years ago and if I'm not wrong, Toyota did give him a new Innova or something.

I could be mistaken but I travelled in a WagonR for my airport ride in Goa which has done 13 lac KM as per the driver (didn’t actually check it)! Am sure there are many Marutis which have crossed unmentionable KMs. They can probably get good PR by recognising such vehicles and their owners.
