What?? Indian companies are really going places. But seriously, where do these premium brands fit into Tata's scheme of things? With Ford it was okay, since it had an extensive product range and a very large global market, to utilise the platforms.

I also read that Fiat was in talks with Ford for Land Rover and Jaguar some time back. Apparently, they backed out of the talks last month. The rumours say that Fiat was not interested in Jaguar as the portfolio would clash with that of Alfa and Ford was planning to give out the twosome together. Ford is still not open to a bidder bidding for each one separately.

There are a lot of interested parties for the bid and with Tata also in the fray, it gets interesting.

Somehow, Jaguar and Tata are poles apart in terms of focus. I could see Tata looking at Volvo though

Off topic, Tata manufactures some components for Jaguar in their Pune facility.

Holy**it!!! Man this saga's getting bigger, bigger and bigger. Indian companies aiming for the Europian's. One day we hear about Bajaj wooing Ducati and the 3rd day we hear Tata going for Jagaur and Land Rover.

This is incredible stuff, started by L N Mittal, carried further by Tatas themselves, Mr. Vijay Mallya and now Bajaj and Tata again.

India might not have a superfast engine yet but Indian companies definitely are running on one!

Go India Go

I agree. I can see the Land Rover thing making more sense, but perhaps they're a package deal?

Land Rover will be good for Tata but seeing their current(LR) situation its not a really great acquisition. They are not going anywhere with their lineup and quality control.

This looks really nice. It need not necessarily get the lines in. Tata owning the British marques means a lot. Getting the perspectives from world cars might help improve the quality of the indica itself.

They maybe selling well but they are losing money, because of their manufacturing structure and also their quality is drastically dropping.

Imagine the potential

Sumo / Sumo replacement - for BPO, big family, corrupt politican / renta mob segment

Safari - despec a discovery and sell it as a value brand

Defender (old landy) - assemble in India - hammer m&m in the defence segment - ironic that Pakistan army use them a lot

Assemble Disco and RR in India and create and establish a niche market

Not sure where Jag fits in though. Brand very sensitive, X type regarded as a leatherised Mondeo despites Ford's best efforts
