india had always enjoyed the benifits of lowest development cost as there was no development at all.see the fact that LR is at stake is the huge development cost involved in their projects and highly paid guys there cumulative and the low sales figures would join hands to bring down the co.we have always enjoyed huge sales volume of low tec cars which is actually the bread and butter of any company whether 2 or 4 wheeler.dont ever compare the sales volume of any triumph or r1 to cd dawn or xceed .so no company will invest in direct manufacture of these cars ,nor in the service dept.imagine special tools etc would set back an authorised service centre by lakhs of rs and when will he break even.

thought process guys

I can see the business automotive headlines now:

"Tata introduces the new Jaguar XK model with the dependable Tata 3.0L diesel!"

The fact that most of the unions are happy with Tata's proposal means that Tata definitely has a good plan wrt Jaguar and Land Lover. I am sure they will have already formulated strategies for them. It is just that at this point, we are not clear as to what Tata could be up to. It will be interesting to see how this whole deal unfolds. I sure am very happy that Tata is bidding for this deal and are actually the only ones in the ring right now.

I think the title is misleading. They are favorites, they have not won the bid yet.
For all the naysayers who think Tata should stick to trucks and blah blah, this is actually a very good move for the long run.
Tata can get very good technology for their cars
Jaguar and land rover were always respected, even after ford. Tata can piggyback into international markets. Till now going in as Tata is not going to reap benefits
With Land rover and Jaguar under the hood, tata in future can give Skoda/Laura segment cars with C class or E class features and 12L price.

And on a lighter not, a Tata Sumo powered by the 2.7 liter twin turbo diesel can win the title of "Taxi driver from hell"

True. He should concentrate on getting the quality of their current cars right.

The only way to make money is to move production of these brands overseas but will they be able to replicate the quality ? To date every TATA car I have seen has differences in finish especially when it comes to panel allignment. No one is going to spend £50K + on a TATA made LR if the quality is similar to their current products.

Yes the workers at Jaguar and LR will love this if production continues at their plants. Lots of money for doing very little work.
