190 BHP Corsa from Opel's factory

A glimpse of the new 190 BHP Corsa "OPC" from Opel. Incidentally, its not just the Corsa, but Opel has an OPC version for its entire lineup -- from the Meriva to the Vectra.

Corsa OPC quick specs:
  • Power: 192 HP @ 5850 RPM (my 1999 version Corsa B is a mere 85 HP from the factory)
  • Acceleration: 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds (mine takes over 12 seconds)
  • Top speed: 225 km/h (mine is 173 km/h, and I haven't reached that yet)
  • Engine: 1.6L turbocharged (mine is 1.4 without a turbo)
So with another 200cc and a turbocharger, they effectively have put 2 corsas in 1 miniature body. And then there's the handling that is required to control all that power, the flexing of the chassis and sideways motion in corners. The list of gadgetry that helps in that area:

IDSPlus2 sport suspension | Rally class shock absorbers | High performance front ventilated brake system | A sport mode activated via a "sportswitch"

Fantastic. Super hot hatch. But I doubt we are going to see this one in our country anytime soon.

MY wife drives a Sail 1.6 and once complained about it's sluggishness. She should see this. BTW I dont think HM sells Opel anymore. Only Chevy now.

Not really. Opel Corsa OPC is only a mini player in European Hot Hatch market. The real contenders are Golf GTi/R32, Civic Type R, Focus RS & Megane F1

Its one hot hatch man, the specs and german engineering are enough for the car to sell in good numbers, sure there will be many fans even in india if its launched..me being already hooked..if at all indians are lucky they can get a glimpse of this beauty, though the chances are very very slim..

Whoa thats some spec sheet. 192 HP from such a small hatch and endless mod potential to go with it.

Why is it that only big cars with powerful engines make it to our country?

Could it be that small cars = average kya hai junta (most often, not talking about a limited few enthusiasts)? And big, powerful engines do not exactly translate into very pocket friendly average. Also, small cars = low acquisition cost and again putting in all the techno gizmos and a powerful engine beats the purpose.

Check out the engine you get in the Swift here vis a vis the ones sold abroad. Same theory. The price would have gone up for Maruti had they chosen that engine and hence they went the tried and tested territory and made the costs competitive.

Its the numbers that matter and then costs thats why the old crap was being dumped here but now things are changing ,but there are very few companies who will do global launch and bring the vehicle same time to India

VW Golf GTi – 2.0 litre produces 200 Bhp
VW Golf R32 – 3.2 V6 producing 250 Bhp
Ford Focus ST– 2.5 litre producing 225 Bhp
Renault Megane F1 – 2.0 litre producing 230 Bhp
Honda Civic Type-R – 2.0 litre producing 200 Bhp

Not only in terms of pure horsepower, even in handling looks etc the corsa is more than outclassed by its opposition in the hot hatch territory here in Europe. It is unfortunate that we Indians don’t even have hopes of any such cars hitting our shores soon :(

Absolutely want it. Think of the money people spend to mod cars, wouldn't it be logical to have all the mods "engineered" from the company itself. This is what we need, charge a premium (against bread and butter versions) but bring it on.
