How come everyone missed this bit of news? We normally have a Fiat overdose on this site!
If Marco Polo brought back Chinese Noodles to Europe and helped create Pasta, here's the modern day version: Fiat will now buy engines from Chery Automotive - the company otherwise famous for having made carbon copies of the Daewoo Matiz/Chevy Spark, the Nissan Altima/Teana, the Nissan Sunny, the X-Trail and the Hyundai Tucson.

Interestingly, Fiat now has tie-ups with the two emerging threats to the Western Automotive world - Tata Motors and Chery, both of whom are considered likely future suitors for Chrysler when Cerebrus is ready to sell.
wow -- Fiat is putting too many eggs in too many baskets -- isnt that a ridiculous strategy -- for a company just back from the brink of closure its focussing its energies at a lot of places at a time
What is this arrangement? Just curious to know. When it was first mooted almost a year back, I read a news item which said that Fiat had licensed Cherry to to build Fiat's 1.6 and 1.8 litre petrol engines. This news item says something different. Is Cherry building Fiat's engines or its own engines and Fiat buying from Cherry? Sounds confusing.

Those are the postives. Don't think this could be classified under positives.
This is just the offshoot of sourcing components from China. It works out pretty much in favour of the manufacturer to go the whole hog and source the entire engine from there. This is in-tune with the Globalisation concept. It was just the other day that a thread on outsourcing design to India was being highlighted. I think Asians should welcome this.
So what pasta is Fiat making this time? :p
Something made by Chinese put into an Italian gravy with Brazilian spices and brought to your table with an unwelcome smile from Tata. No, there should be no complaints as you push it down your throat because there will be no response once the dish is kept on your table.
Yes, The worst thing about this pasta is going to affect us Indians badly.
We're going to get it with some Fruttini made in China, cheese made in Mexico and spices from Brazil. All this because of some dubious strategy of making different types of cars for different countries according to some numberings of 1st, 2nd, 3rd. They include India in the 3rd. Hope this strategy changes after the deal with the chinese.
Otherwise we can call in Mr. Rathan Tata to help in. ;)

I hope and wish this doesn't affect their Indian operations. They plan to buy engines made by Chery and limit the sales to China itself. Doesn't affect India, does it?
Fiat are peeved by Nanjings lack of push. You see very few Fiat's. If you see the Fiat Palio's, they look rather outdated vis a vis the VW's and GM models being produced out there. Nanjing is now mooting merger with SAIC
Hence the move to Chery

Is it a case of Tata's genuine interest in Chrysler or does Cerebrus view the Tatas as a potential money-bags suitor?
