Mine will be
1.Lincoln Navigator
2.Dodge Durango (with hemi)
3.Cadillac Escalade
4.Cadillac SRX V8
5.MB G55 AMG.
BTW, the new G class (2007 release date I think) does not even bear a passing resemblance to the current one. Fans of the older G are going to be disappointed IMO.

The best 5-SUV's.

1> Hummer tops the chart for the best SUV in any and all listings.
2> Range Rover Discovery the good old machine.
3> Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
4> Nissan Patrol and Toyota ForeRunner.
5> Ford Ranger.

Best Indian SUV's (Remember we are talking True-Blue SUV's with off-road capabilities, the ones who can take a beating and still continue with their job).
1> Maruti Gypsy. (I wish they had a diesel engine, but it is still the best in Indian conditions)
2> Tata 207 DI crew Cab. Only who hasn't driven one will disagree with the powerful 407 engine breathing fire inside.
3> Mahindra Bolero Invader with the DI engine.
4> Willys/ Mahindra Classic.
5> Tata Safari/ Mahindra Scorpio.
6> Ford Endeavour (Maybe)

The ford Focus, Honda CRV, etc aren't even worth mentioning since they are essentially soft-roaders. heh heh..

Hey Type0,

Glad to meet you mate, There is atleast one person in the group who shares my thoughts.. But i feel that there are atleast 2 categories of SUV's one male and the other female.

Male SUV's:
Hummer,
Ford Endeavour,
All Mahindra's except scorpio.

Female SUV's:
Ford Focus,
Honda CRV,
Chevy Forester.
Etc.

Personally, the Tata 207 DI is my favourite, I am just waiting for them to launch the Telcoline. But if the Fortuner comes out first. I am going to thrash the telcoline.

HeeeYaaaaah

hello typeOnegative - one more to the list of SUV haters here!!
I feel they have no place on our roads (literally hehe)...they drink too much fuel, are too big and drivers think they own the road!
In the US its crazy when you see a car park full of SUVs and pick-ups...and alsmot all of them have just 1 person in it.....I couldn't believe when people showed up to work in a Dodge Ram or a Ford F150 with ....just a laptop..............is it a waste or what.

anywyas sorry for the rant....but of the SUVs I like (or rather can bear)

BMW X5
Tata Safari
Nissan Xtrail and also the Murano which is I guess is mini-SUV
CR-V
Lexus LS70 (I am not sure abt the make...curvy thing this one)

Hi Manish and Abhay.

At last. I thought I was the lone ranger.

Manish, I agree that there are SUVs and there are 'SUVs'. The point is what you use them for. If you are the genuine off roader then more power to you and may you be blessed with the best SUV money can buy. Otherwise, why even bother? I see people buying these huge machines and driving them like studs - on the road - where they are not required in the first place. And regarding the Hummer - that is not an SUV. That is a monster. A very capable vehicle nonetheless.

And Abhay, I concur. It is a waste to see people turning up to work in those things. But then they have all the gas to burn. LOL

Oops, how could i forget the Nissan Murano, That one is another one of my dream machines.. I agree with Abhay that SUVs are gas-guzzlers.. But, my point of owning an SUV is about the space, power and capabilities. While it is true that SUVs are not meant for an urban dweller.. But in remote places, villages and towns and especially if you have a big family and like to travel most of the times by road. The SUV's are a must have.

Why do you think, that TATA Sumo and Toyota Qualis are selling in such huge numbers in India.

The real people who love an *SUV* or a *pickup-truck* are the ones who dare to venture where nobody has gone before. Folks like mountain explorers and forest rangers. Its not just about venturing into the wilds but the thrill of discovering and conquering new places and going beyond. The feeling is difficult to explain to most babu's living in luxury and opting for the less difficult choices in life. You'll know the feeling when you listen to the call of the wild..

Cheers,

Manish.
