Crush those Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs - Arroyo orders

MANILA, Philippines—Gleaming BMWs, Lambhorginis, Ferraris, Porsches and other very expensive luxury cars most Filipinos can only dream of owning were destroyed to show the government is serious about stopping the smuggling of cars into the country. After presiding over a command conference at the Bureau of Customs on Friday, Ms Arroyo ordered the destruction of the cars valued at just under P100 million next week, Presidential Management Staff chief Cerge Remonde said over Radyo ng Bayan yesterday.

Remonde said the President ordered a stop to the old customs practice of auctioning off smuggled cars since these usually ended up being bought by the smugglers.
“When you put these cars to auction, the buyers are the smugglers themselves. The President wants the smugglers to lose their funds and send a strong signal against smuggling,” Remonde said.

Just saw those beauties in TV, being crushed by a bulldozer

YES,or if not that they can atleast keep them confiscated..or..or sell the cars given no money back to the owner.. by doing this govt could have got the money..owner got his punishment and the cars would remain preserved

that is stupid...how could smugglers use it? if govt cofiscates it and sells them to somebody at a price then whats the problems?? the smugglers wouldnt have got the profit anyways and the money would have been preserved ,only thing is that it would land in the hands of the govt...so why would the smugglers buy he same car again paying the price for it the second time??(looking forward to being corrected)

hellspawn same point here as what amatmo has made. selling the cars would earn the government money itself. if they wanted they could have sold it at a higher price.
