Hyundai & Skoda announce collaboration towards developing a hydrogen ecosystem

Hyundai Motor Company and Skoda have come together and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a hydrogen mobility ecosystem.

The MoU signing between the two car brands took place at the Korea-Czech Republic Business Summit in Prague. It was attended by Ken Ramirez, VP & Head of Global Commercial Vehicles & Hydrogen Business of Hyundai Motor, and Petr Novotny, CEO of Skoda. As per the MoU, Hyundai will provide its fuel cell system and technology to grow eco-friendly mobility in global markets where Skoda operates.

The partnership will also assess the feasibility of using fuel cell systems in applications beyond mobility. Both companies understood that hydrogen would be a crucial element in building a sustainable society, especially in the transportation sector.

Ramirez stated, "Our partnership with Škoda Group aims to accelerate hydrogen adoption, which would contribute to the advancement of hydrogen technology and carbon neutrality across global markets, including the Czech Republic." Further adding, "Together with Škoda Group, we strive to lead the rapidly growing hydrogen businesses by creating positive synergies between our fuel cell technology and Škoda Group’s mobility products and projects."

Re: Hyundai & Skoda announce collaboration towards developing a hydrogen ecosystem

This is far fetched and a future thing, IMO. For markets like India, the longer queues for CNG fill / refill are yet to be sorted out. Battery would be the next best solution to ICE rather than investing in hydrogen fuel cell system.

If at all this picks up pace, this technology would be better suitable for public or multi axel transportation rather than passenger segment.
