I was in Munich back in October for some meetings and I managed to find some time in the evening for a visit to BMW Museum and Welt. I last visited these 2 places 8 yrs ago. I got curious to know what had changed.





First off, the Museum.

The first BMW - a 1927 3/15. Fun fact- it was originally sold as a Dixi from 1927-1929 and later as a BMW from 1929-1932 after acquiring the Dixi business. It was originally licensed from Austin.

It was time well spent in the Museum and I lost track of time. Frankly, the Motorrad part was far more interesting to me than the cars. I was genuinely shocked to see the portfolio BMW has had with 2 wheelers over time. I was far too ignorant about it all.

Anyhoo, it was soon time to move over to Welt where I had my meeting that evening. Spent some time looking at the current range of BMW and it's brands.

Got myself a Coffee at this Autonomous barista...





..and started walking around.

i7 M70. I like the very upright blocky design language. Heck, I have even forgiven the Large Grill. I now find it palatable.

I did the 3 museums in 3 days - Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and BMW just like you. You have covered the full museum displays very well, including the Motorrad collection which was of very specific interest to me!

To be honest, the Car's were pretty much as expected and, for the most part, a repeat for me. In fact a lot of concept cars I had previously seen were missing this time around. Bit of a shame.

However, Motorrad was what really took me by surprise given how big and how old their portfolio is to cover several segments. My exposure to BMW bikes was with the the F 650 when it was launched in India and thereafter my recollection of BMW bikes has always been adventure bikes. I always thought the R 1200 C (Cruiser for US Market) was BMW's Wannabe moment. I was ignorant. Now I know better.

The front and front 3/4 is good but it's the rear that disappoints and feels disjointed. I've gone past the humongous grille. Lets just say, I've gotten used to it.

The rear design - not yet. But then, when it is a BMW, the whole package matters and the current gen packs a decent fight to the E Class and the A6/A7 (whatever it is Audi calls it these days).

I like the interiors in the current gen BMW's.
