McLaren working on a successor to the mighty F1

Quote:
errari may have kicked off the era of the modern supercar with the F40, but McLaren took the concept to a whole new level with the F1. Letting a legendary Formula One designer like Gordon Murray have essentially free reign brought forth a 241 mph, three-seat masterpiece of which fewer than 100 were ultimately built. Others challenged the F1s throne, and the Bugatti Veyron eventually overtook its performance marks, but there is still nothing quite like Murray's original triumph.

McLaren has apparently decided that the time is right to create a successor. They are hard at work on a lightweight two-seater powered by a V8 engine under the name P11. That's one less seat and four fewer cylinders than its forebear, but modern engine tech should be able to render something even faster. British magazine CAR has details of the new supercar that's expected to launch in 2010 in their November print issue.

its good that mclaren have finally decided to come up with a successor to the F1. the P11 with a v8 and one less seat would be able to produce more power with the mordern technology that is available and i hope they use some of the information from the formula 1 side as well. i wonder though how would a two seater Mclaren look, funny at first when you are used to seeing the Mclaren F1. lot of carbon fibre components would be used to make the car as light as possible and a whole lot of BHP added if they want to have it take back the fastest car tag from the veyron.
man one more supercar to hit the market soon.
looking forward to seeing some pictures of it, atleast i can say i have it on my comp.

Faster than the Veyron? I guess thats the question on everyone's minds. If anyone can do it, its Mclaren.

khanak i think they would be able to achieve it. they just have to put in tons of research and loads of spare engines to the test. get all the right ingrdiants from everywhere and wallah you have a Veyron beater. this is something i would like to see, even though i am not a big mclaren fan.

Well if they're using a V8, it maynot be a very big engine. And if they go the NA way this time, the can forget beating the Veyron.

The Mclaren is already one among the quickest/fastest NA car in the world.

Only the engine of a Pagani is built by Merc. That too the AMG division.

I would prefer a hardcore supercar than a luxury supercar like the SLR. I want them to build something like the old F1 or in today's terms a Carrera GT.

Even if you use the engine from a certain manufacturers, there has to be collaboration on many parameters (even if the engine is a run-of-the-mill unit used in many cars). In essence the original McL F1 used BMW Mpower (but they collaborated on it as engineering had to be done at both ends).

They've set a sub-4 second 0-60 time and a top speed of a bit over 200 mph as targets which i think is a bit low. I don't think we should be expecting it to be epic as it will be made in quite large numbers.

Pics looks like a evolution rather than a fresh page.

Well to put it in perspective we have something that can potentially be as fast of "more" than that of a Veyron.

Yeah baby, bring it on.

This almost looks like a Ferrari 360 + Lamborghini Gallardo + Ascari A10. Hope the final version looks a lot more epic than this.
