Ok i was at home this december and went a bit of car shopping with my cousin, who eventually bought a 530i BMW.

In the process i stumbled across a 1999 WRX STi. Ive heard they handle well, then i took it for a test drive... the turbo kicks!! I went around an almost 90 deg bend at 120km/h with no roll. I was bowled over, and it wasnt even expensive. The tourque was phenomenal I was pushed into my seat like i was in a roller coaster heading straight down. I dont like the shape of the newer ones that much tho. Next time i pull these stunts im gona video them But personally if I had a choice of rally car, it would be the Intergrale.

Sam,

just wondering how much it was on sale for?

I too agree on the looks of the earlier Imprezas. Pics of my fav imprezas attached below > 22BSTi, P1, 2000WRC
I was really dissapointed with the bug-eyes subarus.....but soon they grew on me. I like them now but still prefer the older ones. (Hey BMW guys..this is what is gonna happen to you when the new M5 comes out!!!)

Cheers
Rehaan

.
Was it the 3.0 CSL?

My list would be as follows:

1). Lancer EVO
2). Audi Quattro
3). Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar
4). Lancia Stratos
5). Ford Escort

PS: I know it's a 5 year old thread, but a thread like this is never too old.

Here's my list:

1. Subaru Impreza
2. Subaru Impreza
3. Subaru Impreza
4. Subaru Impreza
5. Subaru Impreza

Do you think that I might be a bit biased towards the Suby?

I haven't missed a single rally since 2006. The last two versions of the subaru have been a comedy. Petter tried real hard, but it never worked for him.
Former world champion (in a subaru) Petter Solberg is now using a Ciroen Xsara (which is like 3 years old) and he's on the tail of the works' fords and citroens who are the only manufacturers left in the WRC. I think he's made 3-4 podiums this season with an antiquated Citroen.

Its a good thing they pulled out of WRC rather than continuing to embarass the contraption that has evolved from the legendary rally car.
Mitsubishi has a similar story.

Lancer Evolution
Subaru Impreza 2006
Ford Focus
Citroen C4
Citroen Xsara

@Nitrous:
The latest Subaru's are really good, it has been doing very well in the PWRC & APRC circuits.
The good part about the Subbies are the varied diff maps which are available.
Evos are extremely popular with privateers for their neutral setup.

Nitrous,

My favorite is the 2004 - 2007 Impreza Sti, which in my opinion were the best. Problem is that the bean counters eventually win out in every organization and try to make cars that have more mass market appeal. This is exactly the tradegy with the EVO X. The EVO 8 & 9 were just fantastic cars (not as good rally cars as the Sti) but sadly replaced by a more marketable EVO X.
