BMW launches new M6

Hot at the heels of the M5, BMW is now back with another steed from its M-stable. The charming new E63 M6! Loaded with the same 5.0 litre V10 from the M5, it produces the same hp as well (507) and sees the 0-60 mph timing fall by 0.1 seconds to 4.6. This of course is the official "overtimed" M timing. Expect the car to do the same in reality in around 4.3 seconds. Top speed is restricted to 155 mph as usual, but like the M5, it should easily surpass the 200 mph mark in de-restricted form. Anybody still wants a Dinan/AC Schnitzer tune-up then?

What's even more amazing is the fact that the car is now available with 5 twin spoked alloy wheels, a first for an M car with a love it/hate it design. The car still maintains its traditional M look on other fronts like the huge air-dam and the 4 stainless steel tail-pipes at the rear. It also now incorporates a carbon-fibre hood which reduces weight by 5 kilos. Prices should range around the 100,000 Euro mark for the coupe and should be even more expensive, if and when they launch it in the convertible guise.

PICS:

Revv, the question is - would you prefer this to the M5?

Haha... i expected you to catch me on the wrong foot GTO.

The 6 series really is a very practical car. The rear seats are actually quite comfy. And the car overall is less complicated than the new 5. M6 or the M5, its the M6. What i like about this one is the fact that it really looks like an M car, subtle yet smart. The E60 M5 looks too plain jane and really lacks depth in its design, unlike its predecessor, the E39 M5 which even today can turn heads. The M6 in many ways will do what the E39 did. Command respect. And it does get it from me.

Pure muscle... you said it pal.

Yeah, I guess the 6 series was one of Bangle's best works, definitely came together better than the 5 series. Though I like the conept of an M6, I somehow don't like the idea of putting the same V10 engine with the same specs under the hood. For a brand that's been launched after such a huge gap, I would have preferred some individuality, even if it comes in the form of merely different specifications. Don't get me wrong the V10 is a very potent engine, but....
P.S.: The guy that the M Technik guys trust for the alloy wheels, has just pulled it off yet again! What a work of art.

Not very impressive. It just doesn't look proportionate, not that the Bangled M5 is any better. With a 5ltr engine, i expected it to be even faster. 4.6 secs to 60mph (96kmph) is a no no. Plus it's top whack is limited, so there is no fun factor in it.

Now the big question, would i buy it? Nope, i'd rather find myself driving the older generation M5, it maynot have the brute power these new cars posess, but it does appeal more to me. Maybe if BMW were to come out with a M5 CSL, that would be perfect.

I would anyday go for the M5! This car has one of the ugliest rears i have ever seen on a BMW!

IMO the best BMW is still the M3.

I like the stance of the M6, aggressive yet suave! Gotta love the matte finish, and the grey color too!

So the 'new' one gets a sculpted bonnet like the current post-Bangled Beemers.Damn good shade, must say! Not long before the all new 6 reveals itself though. We've already got a taste of it in the stunning Gran Coupe concept!.
