Voted for the Merc simply because I like it more. It's design is sublime. The 5 Series is already looking dated. Besides, the CLS 55 AMG's performance is not drastically off the M5's.
Haven't read or heard much about the new RS6, but, I have a feeling it'll blow both these cars into the weeds. I've certainly started liking Audis a lot since the past 4 years or so.

quite hard to answer the question when i have not driven either of them. i dont know how the others managed to answer it if they have not driven it????
on paper the m5 looks much more promising.
ive never really liked the merc steering and brakes, both feel really detached whereas in the beamers everything is spot on for my tastes.

11 settings for the gearbox
500 (unlimited)settings for the seats
Seats that caress you when you turn...oooommmph (how cool is that...)
400 bhp - 507 bhp (M engaged)
The most goodlooking of all the M's
Interiors are well done than the mercs'
Most importantly the M5 attitude.
