2009 Forrester

Launched 11 years ago in the US, the forrester made quite an impact on the automotive market. With Subaru's AWD, it packed safety, security and mild off-roadability into a neat package.

Well, it got something right because it managed to sell over 500,000 units

Subaru says its third-generation Forester crossover sport utility vehicle is designed for people with active lifestyles.

Officials from the automaker owned by Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. say the all-wheel drive vehicle introduced at the North American International Auto Show creates more interior space and legroom than previous models.

For the first time ever, the Forester's center console features a navigation system along with an input for MP3 players and video jacks for portable gaming devices.

Subaru waited until today to reveal the US-spec version of its car-like CUV. We all know the shape of things to come for the Forester thanks to numerous leaks and spied test vehicles that popped up throughout the month of December, but Subaru reveals today that US customers will have their choice of naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions of the same 2.5L boxer four-cylinder engines offered before, though they've been worked over for more low-end torque.

While no power figures have been released, we expect both motors to be virtually identical to those used in the Impreza, which means around 170 hp and 224 hp, respectively. It appears the same trim levels will be offered, which include the base 2.5X, Sports 2.5X, 2.5X L.L. Bean Edition paired with the NA engine and the 2.5XT, Sports 2.5XT and 2.5XT Limited offered with the turbo.

New features for the 2009 US-spec Forester include available satellite navigation, standard Vehicle Dynamics Control and traction control, and Incline Start Assist on models with the manual transmission. We'll get detailed information on Subaru's decidedly more butch little CUV at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but until then you can check out the US-spec 2009 Forester in our gallery below and read Subaru's press release after the jump.

Earlier this month, Subaru reported U.S. sales fell 9 percent in December due to in large part to a 24 percent dive in Forester sales.

Manged to search the internet, and some of the leaked images from a Japanese AutoFan magazine.

I doubt if its got anything to do with the Captiva. In the US, its handled entirely by Subaru.
Not much change to the looks of the 2009 version. Headlights have been borrowed from the new WRX.

Good thing it sits like a SUV now. Scooby needed to get away from the retirement crowd and now they have!

Seriously though... Subarus pack a mighty bargain compared to the other offerings in the same price range.

Definitely better looking than the previous generation model. But the 170 bhp base model seems kind of underpowered for an SUV of this size in North America. Unless they can generate loads of torque from that engine.

ITs looking good in black and if this is released in India for the existing price tag(14lacs), it may sell atleast 100 nos a month provided they get the advertising right and give the car the right amount of attitude to go along with an SUV.

Way better than the Forrester sold here earlier on, the drive of that car was very good. This one seems to be more like an SUV :-) Any idea when it may come to India - IF AT ALL !!!

Cheers

After the failure of Forestor in india i dont think GM will take chances once more, they might consider some other car in this segment.

GM no longer owns Subaru, they sold it long time back, so they cannot get the Forester even if they want to.

The old one was a class performer with sedate looks but this one's looking good too.

Surprising, but here in Houston,Subaru cars are as rare as the SAAB cars. I probably see 1-2 of each a day. The Forrester is not as popular as the Legacy. They all seem way more pricey,as compared to other competition in the same segments.
