Cars spotted in Dubai

In the past year I had the good fortune of visiting DXB twice. Some of the members here are already based there so they know what i'm talking about. These are pictures from my SECOND trip in November '07. In my first trip I had visited some others not shown here, like the Exotic Cars shorwoom etc. Those pics will follow in another post. Tons more from the DXB Motor Show will also follow.
One hot sunny afternoon I decided take a long walk and pop into almost every showroom alongside Sheikh Zayed road till I ran out of time. I did this for an hour and a half, before my cousin started calling frantically and asking me why the heck I just hopped into a cab from Dubai Marina and reached another corner of the world just to click pictures of cars (...that he sees everyday). Here are some of the snaps I clicked. Enjoy!

Hyundai Coupe (I always liked this one)

The new Jaguar XK

Mercedes CL500. The best bum ever on a car, IMO. Look at those taillights!

Audi TT

Various Audis

Various Mercedes... S-Class and E-Class

Mercedes CLK-DTM

Maybach 62-S

A BIIIIIGG thanks to the wonderful auntie working at the reception desk of Gargash Mercedes. She seemed to be of Indian origin, and was beaming when I told her I'm from Mumbai and wanted to click some pictures. As I was leaving, she stopped me and insisted, infact ordered me to walk into the back-room of the showroom, where I saw the Mayback 62-S . Lets move on now.

A couple of 'Portes with a 612 Scaglietti at some used car dealer showroom.

The 612 Scaglietti again

part two, I suppose.

Continued....

The Ferrari/Maserati showroom.

This was the big one.I left India praying I would see it in the flesh.

Now for the workshop behind the showroom. I will save you a long speech. I was speechless, and it was EPIC. I know I'm sounding like Clarkson when I say that. But I swear I could go on and on forever trying to express what a sight this was. In 2002, I chanced upon a Ferrari showroom/workshop in Switzerland and since it was late evening and the place was shut, I was left glued to the show-window of the place, almost in tears [well I was 13 then] at not being able to step in. This more than made up for it. I tried to click as many pictures as I could before the battery ran out. Check out all the Ferraris/Maseratis on the service floor in the background. Far behind, there's a spanking new GranTurismo as well, about to be delivered.

F50

599 GTB Fiorano. First pic is an overview of the entire workshop and service area.

Maserati 3200GT if I'm not mistaken

Lastly, at the place of residence at DXB Marina, there was this Range Rover parked outside. Anyone residing in DXB will know what sort of money is paid for licence plates like D 82 on this Range Rover and D 34 on the 599GTB. It's as expensive as buying another Ferrari.

Dubai Motor Show 2007 pictures will follow sometime later.

Before I saw it, I hated the 599, I thought they've lost it. But when I saw it in person, on several occasions infact, I was convinced what a piece of art this car is. Of course my objection was only pertaining to the exterior design. It's just...different. Incredibly aerodynamic visually, and the red nails it I'm going to post another F50 which I saw in the Exotic Cars showroom in July 07. That's a little later.

Some pictures from the Exotic Cars showroom, Dubai. Clicked during the first trip, July 07. I really loved this place. Had lots of LCD's playing different episodes of Top Gear UK, a nice decor with brand logos on the walls, and a nice service area at the back which I wasn't really allowed into. Owner's a nice chap though. Let me take all the snaps I wanted.

Here's the remaining bit...

Upcoming posts include photographs of cars randomly seen on roads and in the massive, MASSIVE parking lots of the malls in Dubai. Maybe after that i'll get around to posting a select few of the 600-odd photographs shot at the Dubai Motor Show.

@ishotmydog : Rolls Royce comissioned seven special edition examples of the Phantom for each of the rulers of the seven Emirates. Apparently that didn't exact'y happen, they were reserved by wealthy individuals instead. One of them was ordered in the rarest of colours, Ensemble Red, and although I wasn't allowed to sit inside to verify the insignia, I believe this was the Dubai Bespoke Edition No. 4 or 5. Long ago, one of the publications, Top Gear I think, mentioned this and also stated that one of the seven, a Green Phantom, had been "reserved by Pallav Patel, a wealthy 25-yr old CEO of two companies in Dubai" or something like that.
