i guess the front section reminds me too much of the new beetle. and the reinterpretation of the classic 911 headlights looks quite clumsy. overall the design gets a thumbs-down from me. and i hate the wheels too.

Wow!!! but is it really a boxster now??? I look at it and I cant make out the difference between this and the 911..I would definetly not compare it to a beatle but surely a lovely machine...

to make it better for me, I hate the current boxter..think its an ugly looking machine...but now that it resembles the 911 or is more like it..i have started loving it...cant wait to see it in person..

Cheers..

Oh I am sorry I misread the title

Anyhow I have seen pictures of the new boxster and they are the same, with the same yellow and everything..so I got confused..also I thought the new 911 facelift was doing away with the oval lights and going back to the basics with the round?? So I saw on this site as well as in a mag..so I am confused now ...

anyhow this is cool...even for a 911 I love it..

Cheers

not quite as appealing as the 996 series even. and the 993 style headlights do look a little clumsy. the rear seems like its been photoshopped on the yellow car, but doesn't seem so on the red one, so i guess its fairly authentic. in that case, i hate the tail lights. and the car on the whole seems a bit too jazzy. but then this must be a pre-production model, so quite a bit will change hopefully before it reaches production. and spy pics hardly do justice to the car. so it gets my benefit of doubt. anybody know what sort of engine configurations are we looking at here?

Looks like they r going back to the single round headlight which served the 911 so well for years...no, make that decades! It looks similar to the 993, which IMO, is a good thing.

funny you say that, coz I guess we can thank the original Beetle as it was the basis for the first Porsche's. So maybe its only fitting that the next 911 pays tribute, albeit unintentionally, to the new beetle!

Well S350...I sure am serious when I said that. The history of Porsche is long and well documented, so I'm sure you can find it easily on the net. However, let me tell you in a nutshell how the Beetle and the Porsche are related.

Firstly, they are poth designed by the same guy - Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Look at the basic layout and construction of both, and its plain to see -
live rear axle
Air cooled engine hanging behind the axle
Bug eyed looks

You have to read the complete history to really get the picture though, and I'm sure someone here knows of a good link.

cheers!

ya i know both the cars were related, but still. the first pic, just proportionally scale down the pic a bit, and it sure does remind me of the new beetle. and the new interpretation of the old 911 headlights looks worse than in the last-gen porsches. it looks a bit gawky, but maybe it's 'coz i love classic porsches very much. looks too synthetic.....like someone forced them to do it at knife-point. but thank god, there's still the classic porsche shape.

IMO Porsche seemed to have such a superb evolutionary process going on, until now where they seem to be taking a step backwards (not saying that its bad....but just that it seems to ruin the perfect evolution!)
anyway...

check out the foggies in the front bumper...interesting.

now thats a better pic! Looks just like the 993 though, and I tend to agree with Rehaan, in that Porsche should have continued evolving the design instead of going the way of all the other manufacturers and getting retro! While the other guys needed to do that to rekindle their glory days....the 911 is living its glory days every single day...so i don't quite get why they had to take a step back!?
