Cars in Singapore

These are pics of cars from my recent visit to Singapore. Some usual suspects, some unusual (read: Chinese). Please excuse quality in some pics as they were from phone cam.

I was under the impression that cars being so expensive in Singapore, I would probably not see many exotics. How wrong was I! There were hordes of Porsches, Ferraris, Bentleys an what have you.

Interestingly, almost 99% of the Swifts and Getz in Singapore that I saw were completely modded. I wondered why.

For the sake of comparison, a 1.2L Suzuki Swift costs SGD 50k, or approx INR 1,500,000

Cyrus, sadly no! They were too fast for my cam!

and ya 15 million for a 1.2 Swift ( Oh boy i love India - Over Singapore that is )

The cars out there in Dubai are much cheaper, Dont know about the mauritius.

Was there any expo or something going on ?

Yes, cars in Dubai are quite cheap compared to India (e.g. Honda Civic costs AED 65k there or INR 715,000 and BMW 3 series starts at AED 120,000 or INR 1,320,000!)

An Abhinav, Swift is not INR 15 million but INR 1.5 million in Singapore

There was an exhibition of latest models and scale car collection by VW. Rest others are actual street cars.

cool...u were at arab st...i am always there...home is just nearby...yeah loads of fancy cars turn up there on fri/sat nights...audi R8s ...ferraris and lambos are a normal sight. hope u had fun!

I must say people in Sing have some taste in cars....every car is well maintained and tastefully modded.

The maximum no.of BMW 5 series i have seen are in that city.

I was in Sing few weeks back,every time i got out of my hotel the hilton on orchard i saw atleast 3-5 supercars...F430..Phantom...Lambos...360m..aston.. .the works!

A car is a luxury there so the cars are mainly high end.

The reason that cars are so well maintained in Singapore is because most of them are not too old. Old cars are too expensive to own because of pollution norms. Consumers pay a lot for their cars due to very high taxation and so manufacturers offer high standards of quality.

I heard that you cannot easily get a car even though you have money. You have to get approvals and have stay there for some years. Is this true ?

Yes we have a Bidding system for cars. Its called the Certificate of entitlement. As singapore is tiny...the goverement is trying to control the car population. And thus alot of crap for acerage familys to pay on taxes...charges to enter the city area and use of expressways at certain times.

Our "prime minister'' has said that cars are a luxury item...and only those who can afford should get one...and even those who can get one have to cry through their noses to keep up with monthly charges and parking. Its cost 2918Rupees to park at your flat everymonth.

Bikes are great but still expensive. For the price of a CBR600 i could buy a scorpio in india. And riders are considered 3rd class citizens here...grrrrrr
