Optical illusions as Speed Breakers !!!

Optical illusions used as virtual speed humps !!!

The fake speed humps are being installed at 100 junctions around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as part of a campaign against aggressive driving.

The virtual humps in Philadelphia are part of a city-wide campiaign called "Drive CarePhilly" which includes more resources for police to catch speeding mororists.

Whats the point ?
It will be effective only the first time you encounter them isn't it ?

Not if you make 10% of the illusions real. Make a real speedbreaker when people expect an illusion. Howz the idea?

Or do like India. Make a camouflaged speadbreaker. After a few broken suspensions, people will naturally drive carefully

We dont need them at all. Speed Breakers (natural or created) are anyways there on every possible road in India. The potholes that have crept up all over the city after these heavy rains have left so many roads full of natural Speed Breakers.

They have optical illusions to control the traffic, we have sheer big potholes..... They must have invested thousands of dollars in creating the same, its totally free of cost here

Although the intent is good, how far will it really work. Once you go over a fake one, you know the location of it, and wont bother slowing down the next time.

It will work only for the initial period. Once you come to know they are fake, then you may love to floor the pedal next time you see it.

What if they start mixing the real speed breakers with fake ones? People are going to have a tough time sorting which are real and fake !!

It would be pretty silly and tragic as well if someone swerved/braked to avoid this illusionary speed-breaker and got into an accident. Really no need for speed-breakers anywhere, either real or imaginary.

Good idea must say especially after seeing the state of speed breakers in India which you think are invisible until you get to close to them. However a better idea would be make to multiple speed breakers of a smaller height, don't know why don't we see these anymore, used to see a lot of these on highways earlier. IMHO these these type of speed breakers are the best as they serve the real purpose of reducing speed without getting you airborne.

Ummm...do we really need this (in India)? BTW, what would be the cost involved in this type of virtual speed breakers ?
