Tata on charge: 7 seater Land Rover soon.

I feel that Tata have already started to gas up with their two new powerful brands. The report says that a seven seater Land Rover will be out by 2012. Click on the link to read more.

The article talks about twin-clutch transmissions.

What does this mean?

As the Land Rover gets even bigger, wonder how they handle the 'environmentalists' who are after them like a pack of wolves?

Which is why Tata are gung-ho about the future LR hybrid models.

If at all this vehicle comes up even in developed markets, they will surely have it with fair success associated for the car.

Its a nice move but I feel that its very far away i.e. in 2012.

thats tata making LR go the Sumo way. What is the market for the Landy? is it really being modified and positioned as a People mover?

I dint think by making a land rover a 7 seater it will become a sumo. Are you saying that the landcruiser or the lexus lx470/570 or the volvo XC90 is a sumo contender ?

If I misunderstood your statement I am sorry.

I dint mention any of the other high end suvs as their 3rd row is hardly usable by adults.

Edit: The volvo xc90 can actually be excluded from the list as it is hardly an off roader.

The article clearly states this particular model is going to be a road specific car. So rather than comparing it with Sumo think of it being launched in India, this 7 seater definitely has market in our country so we can expect a global launch.

They are extending the LR2/freelander (on which LRX is based) with a 3rd row. This will be slotted below LR3.A much needed option esp in the US market since many other SUV/crossovers in this category already comes with a 3rd row option.Dont expect this to be a people mover or any thing but rather an RR sport(based on LR3) type of car with a 3rd row. LR3 may go away after this generation or go up a notch since Range Rover is going even more upmarket with next generation.
