The Koenigsegg CCR SLAMS Mclarens F1 for a new World Record

Comparison chart results at Nardo/Prototipo for Production cars:

1. Koenigsegg CCR 388 km/h
2. McLaren F1 372 km/h
3. Ferrari Enzo 355 km/h
4. Porsche Carrera GT 334 km/h
4. McLaren Mercedes SLR 334 km/h
5. Lamborghini Murcielago 330 km/h

On February the 28th 2005, at 12.08 local time, the Koenigsegg CCR broke the production road car speed record, achieving a new official top speed of 388 (387.87) km/h at Italy?s Nardo Prototipo proving ground.

The Koenigsegg CCR raised McLaren's previously unofficial mark of 372 km/h set at Nardo/Prototipo in 1993 with over 15 km/h. On top of this the CCR broke the official McLaren F1 record of 386.7 km/h, which was set on the 9 km straight line VW Ehra facility in Wolfsburg Germany.

Long time coming, eh? BTW Gordon Murray had predicted that there will be a slew of modern cars that will one day break his record. But not one of them will be a true all rounder like the Mac

The CCR is awesome compared to all current supercars and breaking the record of the F1 is a damm good thing. BUT, I still respect the Mclaren F1 for making this kind of speed 8 years back and that too with a naturally aspirated engine. Thats wat rather makes it more speacial to me than the CCR!!

Hey, but the top speed of the Mclaren isn't 372kmph. These guys are using some unofficial top speed to make the CCR look better.

The official top speed of the Mclaren is around 241 mph or 385.6 kmph.

And like Stratos said, the brilliance of the McLaren is in it's BMW engine which, in spite of being naturally aspirated, achieved this some 8 years ago.

With 806bhp and 920nm of torque, this car should have cracked the 400kmph barrier.

Well is it something like the 962 , Saleen and all were race cars developed into roadlegal cars... whereas... the Enzo, CCR are originally cars developed for road use???
I may be wrong!!

Just what i was thinking. Coz i have a vid of a Mclaren reaching 391kmph. But the official top speed is around 385-386kmph, very confusing.

you ought to know that nardo is a circular banked track.the mclaren video shows it doing 391 on a straight piece of road. the banked track exerts additional/different forces on the car namely the centrifugal force mv2/r that tends to throw it out.it is bound to affect the speed.

Well Ameya...if I am not wrong the Nardo is banked so it becomes artificially straight you do not need to turn the steering wheel. So dont use those formulas as the banking overcomes the centrifugal force!!

They say every 10mph over 200mph on Nardo relates to an extra 4mph on a perfectly straight and flat road!

Hey Ameya as far as from what i have heard.....a production road is one , of which a min number of atleast 100 or so are produced along with the cars for various crash and safety tests. This is what i know about it. If anyone else could shed some more light here...would be great

Cheers!!!

mclaren 391 could be a speedo error, if the vid shows the internal speedo. just a thought. my apologies if the speed is corroborated by gps or laser/radar.

CCR beats the Mclaren F1! So what? To me and many others, the Mclaren F1 is the ultimate supercar of all time and will remain that way for the foreseeable future at leat.

The Mclaren F1 has actually clocked a speed of 386kph (240mph), that's just 2 kmph down on the Koenigsegg...and the latter has been a prototype since say 4 years now...and as Deeps said, the McLaren F1 will still remain the ultimate sportscar. And now even Gordon Murray has quit Mclaren, and the prototype McLaren P8 has been cancelled.

Wasn't a Koenigsegg rumoured to have clocked 242 mph at a Gumball event too?
And is the CCR a production model? I thought the last one was CC8S.

Though I don't question it's straight line abilities, I haven't heard it break any records on the NS yet.
