It's great & impressive to see X5 as escorts! Ya, earlier it was Safaris that too silver. Now the black suites well for this fleet. When are they going to replace the 7-Security with the latest F01/02 varients?

Oh, at least 6 X5's. What do they cost? 55- 65 lacs apiece? Great sight, anyway.

Time for the PM to upgrade to the new 7 series Security. Maybe a fleet of new Bentley Mulsannes for HE The President too.

Happy to see our taxpayer monies being spent so well!

I think those X5 will also are Security varient (bullet proof), by seeing its glasses. If so it'll most probably be Rs.1.50cr +.

It's also time for upgarding the President's S600 Pullman to W221 series Pullman Guard. I dont think Mulssane will replace the Pullman as President's chariot as Mulssane doesn't have the limo as well as bullet proof varient so far.

Some snaps of Indian official state cars during the Republic Day. Sorry for poor quality, photos taken from TV.

President & cheif guest (Korean President) came in W140 series Merc S600 Pullmann Guard and both President's spouses came in W220 S600 Pullmann Guard.

Vice President came in white 7-series Security & Prime Minister came in black 7-series Security along with few black X5s as escorts & a Merc Sprinter Ambulance.

Hu Jintao's Ride

This FAW Limousine spotted here in Beijing is Chinese President Hu Jintao's official car. It's part rip-off Rolls Royce Phantom, part copied Cadillac, and a healthy dollop of wacky retro-futurism. Hold onto your butts, this faux Cadillac One's strange.

China's about 50 years behind the U.S. in some respects and 100 years behind in others. So, if you think about it, the retro-futurism mixed with blatantly ripped-off styling makes a lot of sense as the car for China's President to be driven around in.

I wonder what Mr. Jintao will think if somebody told him his ride resembles like a ubiquitous Mumbai taxi from the front.

I think it looks sort-of wonderful! I love the headlamps, with the eye-design glass work (see the link for the other photos) and the General's Peaked Cap look!

Pretty much the same repeat this year as well. though PM's car carried different registration number 4000 rather than 5800 seen last year(as per pics below). Looks like there are 2 vehicles?

I think the guest was the Indonesian president, not the Korean.
Also a w126 behind the w140 limo.
But where is the W221 S guard that was recently purchased, eventhough the w140 is more suited.
High time to change the old Safaris to new DiCORS or the Aria perhaps.

DiCKY, Hani post is from last year.

You got to admit the presence of the w140 over the w220

Oooppsss, my bad.
Just that it's the same motorcade this year also, didn't notice the PM's 7er which is the only different one.
BTW, the w126 and w140 are my all-time favorite S-classes, it's just that read the Rasthrapati Bhavan bought the new S Guards so curious to see them.
Yes,admit it full time- the w220 is the most puny one and nowhere near the w140 (or for me the w126)

Why do these X5s have protruding side steps?

Re: Official State Cars

The protruding steps are for the guards in the escorts to stand on. Also enables them to climb onto a moving vehicle easily, so that the cavalcade can get a move on as soon as the VIP is secured in his vehicle.

As for the multiple no. of vehicles reserved for the PM, this is standard practice for security agencies. Mainly due to two reasons. One decrease the chance of sabotage of the vehicle and have a spare car. Two, many a times both vehicles are used in the cavalcade to confuse shooters as to which car is actually being used.

OT: Many a times the VIP may actually be in one of the escort cars if the situation demands it. The most extreme case of this that I remember is Bill Clinton flying out to Pakistan in 2000 in a completely unmarked Gulfstream while Air Force One flew out only with his entourage.

Re: Official State Cars

I'm confused now. The PM has both old 7 Security (black/green) and new 7 Security (black)?

Re: Official State Cars

Generally the multiple cars should be completely identical, other than the registration number of course.
