Just out of curiosity. Have any of you guys who have travelled abroad seen a VW Phaeton. The top of the line model was supposed to have a W12, 6 litre engine and all that jazz. Was launched as a direct competitor to the S class and 7 series. Fancy glass building to build the car where customers could choose to come and watch their cars being built. Hope its not used to build Polos and Golfs now.

Yepp, Boring..
I love it in that Picture Rehaan, but I guess its you .. not the CAR! (honestly looks wicked in there). But my first ever experience to it naked eyed wasnt that interesting. Just passed by, Did steel the attention, but looked too blunt. The ones in its class are far better looking. Mind you, I am just plainly talking about the looks experience comparing it in its class. Though it seems to be selling pretty well in the continent. I think its the cheapest in its class, ain'it?

Rehaan. I wouldnt even expect you to take a pic of it.

It is a boring car no doubt. With so much talk here abt mercs, bmws, audis and jags, was wondering what happened to he w12 vw. But i guess it doesnt even begin to count, when image is everything in this section of the car buyer.
Whats the point of having it when u have audi in ur group. Wonder how many top guys at vw themselves would go for the phaeton. Another of those eccentricities of the chap who was at the top.

The one thing that went against the Phaeton is the brand. VW, by definition, is a peoples car and its surprising that VW expected people to pay a premium price for its not-so-premium brand. The second is the looks factor. The Phaeton has just too much in common with its smaller and significantly cheaper siblings.

Do you guys think there's anything to be made of the Phaeton ad's that are appearing on TV recently? Introducing the Phaeton to the public slowly maybe?

Doesn't make sense and also highly unlikely that a large expensive VW would ever sell in badge conscious South-East Asia, but who knows....

Probably looking at China. I read somewhere that China is one of the biggest markets worldwide for Bentley, Rolls Royce, Merc S Class and the 7 series.

I Think like GTO said, The brand is what dents the car the most,
Ive not seen one personally,
Buy some places ive read the car is quite nice,
Has a quality level as good as Mercedes S,
Infact certain things are even better then the S,
But then who cares it's a VW

well i quite like the Phaeton, exudes a certain teutonicness about itself, as all German cars do, and which the Mercedes does a little less. the range of engines is very impressive too, and i believe the V10 TDI won the International Engine of the Year Award, or something like that. The ad i think is brilliant too, one of the better ones around. very intelligent idea behind the ad, but they dragged it on for too long
