Arre v12, what I meant was why W*** ?
Like for egs the C has easier numbers to remember like W201, W202, W203..
But not the same can be said for S, E and SL .. At the moment while writing I've already forgotten what the SLs are called.. ummm.. errrr.. R129 ? or something.. see can't recall .. If we know what those Ws and Rs stand for and also the number.. It would be easier.. (I hope "THIS TIME" I made myself clear? )

Hey PS n V12 here is your answer..... About "W"
The "W" that sometimes precedes the chassis no. prefix denotes the "Werksbezeichnung" (dont ask me how 2 pronounce dat i'll forget my name). This is a factory code which serves to identify any variants of particular model built upon a specific chassis platform.
For Example....Type W120 cud identify any of the following 4 cylinder sedan models
180/180a/180D/180b/180Db/180c/180Dc

W = Sedans, Wagons (M,G)
R = Roadsters
C = Coupes ( C219 etc)

Interesting F50. Werksbezeichnung translates to Work Designation (Google language tools)

Wow thats some awesome stuff...I really didnt know..cuz I always got confused in these code names..it is helpful if you compare old designs to the new ones and all..I really dont do that..cuz I somehoe only like current designs..exceptions are always there..but I am sucker for new designs..

anyhow very very informative post...Way to go...man!!

Cheers

Lovely thread V12 -- i must say that you and Gordon have really added some unique pictorials to TBHP right from the early days!

Just make sure it doesn't get forgotten and left in the HH!
